    vin changing

With the tuner software, is a person who buys a vcm from the junkyard that is the same year and model stuck using the vin off that vcm unless the person has the pro version? They wil be able to edit the vcm, but be stuck with that vin, is that right or can it be changed?
    Thanks,
    Scott

You can only change VIN's with the PRO version. You also might be able to take it to a local dealer and have them flash the VIN onto it.

If the dealer does the vin change, or even someone with the pro, that will be sufficient enuff to be able to use it then? I thought there was something else in the VCM that was maybe software that wasnt changeable ?

I think that is it. Someone else may know better, but I think the VIN is all that needs to be changed if it is the same year/model. You don't even really need the VIN changed, unless you want it to match your vehicle.

I was under the assumption that you couldnt read or write it unless the VIN was the same?

As long as the VIN indicates that it is the same year/model as the year/model you purchased you're ok. You can program an unlimited number of vehicles for the year/model you purchased.

So if you got the VCM from the same year/model vehicle as you bought support for, it should be good to go.

Its impossible to understand what you mean by "change the vin"... Are you asking if it was flashed with a TECH2 and SPS? Are you talking about flashing it with the PRO version of HPT?
