VATS Disable 98 Grand Prix GTP PCM/BCM

    Howdy,

I've stapped a Grand Prix GTP harness, PCM, and BCM into my '64 Riviera ontop of an LC2 type Buick V6. It starts and runs but I have trouble getting some warning lights I added and the fuel pump working. I disabled the security so did this take out the BCM's ability to trigger warning lights? I'm not sure the fuel pump is related to the VATS quite yet but it might be. What are the symptoms of VATS trying to keep the car from starting?

    Thanks,

Start, then stall. You can always jumper the FP with 12V from the battery for testing.

Also do you get a fuel pump prime at key on? 98s just want a 50% DC, 30 or 50hz frequency signal from the BCM to the ECU.

We used one of these (can't remember which) in a friends 3800 to RX7 swap:

This is the physical way to defeat VATS, you should be able to disable it in the PCM itself per:

I don't get a pump prime or any other function though I think I can hear a pump relay trying to prime it in the fuse box. I've got the pump jumped with a manual switch now but want to get rid of it.

I'm actually thinking of integrating in a lot of the BCM features eventually so I left it in the loop. Just don't want the VATS security system to be on.

to disable the vats we use to measure the resistance of the key chip and get a resistor close to that resistance and solder in the wires. this way it always had the correct value to bypass the security. it was cheaper than replacing the ignition cylinder because of a broken wire.

Thanks for the wiring solutions but will disabling the VATS knock out the rest of the BCM functions?

HPT shouldn't affect any of your BCM functions or abilities, only PCM functions. Disabling VATS only should affect VATS as your car doesn't use the VATS system for much else.

I did the "Relink VATS/VIN" and the BCM has started talking to the warning lights! I now have the low fuel light on!

I can definately hear the relay trying to prime the system so I'll check my wiring.
