Default HPTuners interface permanent install--any reason not to?

    Hey gang,
I'm new here and just received my HPTuners Pro setup and have been playing with almost non-stop.

I did a search but only found 1 thread and it was more related to how to hard-wire the interface.

I've been thinking about installing the hardware interface to be in the car 24/7 as the wires do get in the way under normal driving conditions.

I noticed the green light stays illuminated anytime the interface is plugged into the OBD2 port or the laptop so would this drain the battery in the car if not unplugged?

I was thinking I could just 'install' the interface in the car, along with the WB02 output, and leave the USB connection in a convenient spot to plug into the laptop during scanning.

Thoughts? Is there any reason this would be a bad idea? The HPTuners setup is for personal use so I can't imagine needing to remove for any reason but correct me if I'm wrong.

I also found this cable and thought it would be handy as to not put such a drastic bend in the supplied OBD2 cable.

Is there any reason NOT to use this right-angle extender? I don't know a lot about the information that is transmitted through the cable, but I'd hate to have it cause an issue with writing to or scanning information from the PCM.

    Thanks

EDIT: Oops, the title shouldn't have "Default" in it. I'm not really sure where that came from

it will slowly drain the battery, you should use a switched 12V power source if you want to do this.

    Thanks for the input Chris.

Can you comment on the right-angle cable I posted? I understand not endorsing another product persay, but is there any reason it would be detrimental to use an extender like that, assuming it is in good working order? I'd hate to have to crimp/turn the supplied obd2 cable to have out of the way all the time.

Or you cut the OBD HOT wire, and wire it to a double throw switch, with one input from the wire that used to go to the OBD port, the other IGN1, and then put the output back to the OBD port. Then when you are using the MPVI you leave it on IGN1, and if you have to take it in for service, you switch it back to Batt.
