What's this the local meeting of the Geritol gang? LOL

J/K guys, I ain't no spring chicken either.

25-30 hp at the wheels is a pretty tall order just from tuning. A set of long tube headers, high flow cats, and a tune, and you're there.

Long tube headers for an SRX? Maybe if I were to buy a tubing kit and fab them myself would be about the only way. Looked at putting a Corsa exh system on the car. Have an aftermarket MAF but wonder if that really does much. Installed a Volant air box & filter. Makes more noise when calling for more air. Other than that, I wonder how far I have to get into the engine.. As it now stands, I'm debating trying to find an intake system from a V series Caddy...Then I wouldn't need HP. On the othewr hand using the computer is readily changed back to stock if I don't break anything.. (and probably cheaper). Realistically, what can I expect from using HP to change timing, fuel curves, etc. given that the current mods are minor?

Yeah, didn't see the car type. Missed that.

A CAI is usually only good for a few HP. Tuning can net anywhere from 5 to 20 depending. There are only a few cars that routinely pick up more then 15-20 hp at the wheels.

    Unhappy

Bottom line - given the CAI, an aftermarket MAF, and a Corsa exhaust system, what should I reasonably expect to see in power gain using the HP Tuner program. Secondly, will a guy need to change injectors for a bit more fuel flow to accomodate the changes in timing, fuel curves, etc? Last of all, and maybe the hardest question - should a neophyte like myself really attempt to re-program the ECM? I'm a 4 hour drive from the nearest speed shop...

CAI will gain a few. Aftermarket MAF, probably none. Corsa, a few. Roughly, 20-30 rwhp, depending.

As for tuning it yourself, there's multiple books, and training material available, and there's people like myself that sell tunes, tuning software, and support. That's always an option.

I bought the CD set "calibrated Success" a while back, reviewed the CD's, looked at the various FI tables. Problem was that I saw nothing that I could relate to my set of wheels. Cobra inj tables? GM 6.0 L tables? , etc. How does that relate to my set of wheels? Tried to find out what my injectors flow. Can't even locate the brand!! Different color tops? What does that mean to me? ABsolutely SFA... I do see that HP Tuners has specific tables for my car now, so maybe, but as for credits etc. those are of no value to me. It would be nice if I coould transfer those credits to someone that could use them, Maybe for a couple bucks kickback...

^ Greg only enclosed some common injector tables. It helps a lot (if you have those exact injectors) but otherwise you're relying on your dealer to supply complete information. Injector Dynamics is known to have some of the best data, for future reference.

There have been times I thought I got everything right only to discover (after more reading) it wasn't. Over the course of trial and error, I have learned a tremendous amount of information and still have more to learn.
Same here. I started reading about 6 months to a year before I started an account here. Got the trial version and played with that. Read some more. The trial version was an eye opener. So much more than I expected. Did some more reading, bought the full version. Read some more, bought Greg's whole library, then I started to gain the confidence to be able to start making changes to my car. But I've always been a gearhead. I have researched everything else under the hood, so this was the next logical step. That and I got ripped off for a tune, so I said no more. Doing it myself. Can't trust anyone anymore.

At some point in time, kids will be totally lost without the electronics. Remember counting on your fingers? Wonder if kids even know that...By the way, my great-grand daughter is getting some sort of mini computer for her 3rd birthday!!!

^ 3 is a bit too young, in my opinion.
