    wideband tuning question?

Why when tuning with a wideband it is done in open loop, as opposed to closed loop when tuning without a wideband? Im really confused about this because it doesent make sense to me to tune in open loop with a wideband if you plan on running SD and that is closed loop.

    Re: wideband tuning question?

when your tuning without a wideband your using your fuel trims to tune your ve. Fuel trims are only used when your in closed loop so thats why you tune in closed loop

If you have a wideband set the car to be in open loop and you tune via AFR error. You command a AFR and you adjust the ve table based on the error between commanded vs what your acctualy getting. This method wouldnt work if you were in cloosed loop because the computer is always adjusting the afr to be 14.7 which is what you command during part throttle so it will show your ve table to be spot on

The only reason you cant tune with a narrowband in open loop is that they not not accurate and reading AFR other that 14.7 so your afr error wouldnt be accurate
