LS swap in 70 Cutlas ECU problems

We are doing an LS swap and was told that the year of the engine and ECU match. Not thinking anything could be wrong with what was told to us we licensed that ECU that came with the engine for the swap. Come to find out that ECU is for a different model year engine and we are now having a ton of problems due to the ECU and engine hardware mismatch. We have bought the correct model year ECU now and want to use it, however we licensed the one that is giving us a hassle. Do we have to burn two more credits on this ECU or is there some system that hp tuners can use for the license to go to the new ecu? Can we send in ECU's or in the new ECU is there some VIN or ID number we can change. I am not trying to cheat the system and have the ability to tune a different vehicle I just want to be able to finally get this single car up and running correctly? I would rather not have to burn through 2 credits due to having to change the ECU. Any help and advice you can give would be great.

It is a bit of a "look before you leap" endeavor. You ran head long into licensing the ECM without checking it out first - how is that HPT's problem ?

You can read an ECM without licensing it - I would suggest this is always a prudent first step.

Its obviously not their problem, its mine. So along the same lines if my car's ecu was to fail and I had to have it replaced I would need to burn 2 more credits? It seems the intent of the credit per ECU is more control of ensuring the software isn't purchased and whored around to every friends car, however in this case it would still by my car the only car the software was used on but with a different ecu installed. For the cost I spent on the software I would hope there would be a solution to this rather than just getting hit for another 100 bucks. In this case its not another car, just a different or new ECU.

There is no way to move credits from one PCM to another, period.
If you need to tune another PCM, you need to buy more credits.

Yes, the evil HPT isn't fair. They paid engineers up front salaries to make this tool for which you have a need. This is a bet that if they produce something of value, you will of your own free will buy it on their plain and simple terms that they practically shout at you when you are making the purchase.

Men can play in women's sports now but you still have to buy a license every time you need one, at least for now as Furher Biden still allows it.
