Hi All
Lets talk about leaded fuel and oxygen sensors
If you work on or have a motor(s) that run on ONLY leaded high octane race fuel your GM oxygen sensor is not working properly.
Facts;
-leaded race fuel will almost immediately make for bad 02 readings w/ OEM sensors
-Denso replacement sensors are more tolerant to lead polluting them
Interesting notes;
-Wide Band A/F sensors run hotter heater temps and last longer w/ leaded fuel
-Exhaust cools over time as it travels farther from the head
Assumed;
-hotter oxygen sensor temps help prevent "lead poisoning"
Purposed;
-Move the oxygen sensor closer to the head maybe even into the header primary where the exhaust pulse is much much hotter. This would sample one cylinder not one bank.
-Having the oxygen sensor in place where it is a mild restriction may help it build heat and "burn off"
question;
-at what point witl the EGTemps be to high for the sensor to live. AKA not melt
Please lets not have this turn into a Closed loop VS. Open loop debate. Lets focus on how to use oxygen sensors with lead fuel.
