    5.7 Eagle "happy" Lambda value

    Hi all,
    Car is a 2014 R/T, 5.7, M6, 3.92 gears.
In the WOT tables, my factory tunes' FA starts off at a reasonable 12.5:1 down into, let's just say, the lower-right portion of the PE tables...where this thing gets "pig rich", down to 11.0:1 (.0688 Stoich, plus an additional .0219 adder under Aircharge PE table. The PRatio PE table isn't as bad, but still richening up to 11.3:1)

Where have you folks seen "safe" FA's on the 5.7 VVT engines? 11, or even 11.5, seems really rich.

I plan on acquiring an AEM Wideband setup, to log that too and see where I'm at for a safe WOT PE. That's a little down the road, as I'll be doing some likely mods over the winter (possibly a cam, head porting, and a complete SRT8 factory 2.75" exhaust system.

Thanks in advance. Getting into tuning, been reading a lot.

these things are and can be stupid fat from the factory, depending on who you talk to Ideal "power NA" is between 12.5 and 13.2( some of the sprint car engines we build will run 13.4AFR on 98oct) ,

G3 Hemi likes it fat, 12.2 (.0135+.0688) seams to be a good happy place for most Eagle 5.7s , if you pull a little timing out you can go as lean as 12.7 , I wouldn't go any leaner then 12.7 with an Eagle headed monster, Apache/BGE(NA build) 12.9 is the highest I venture.

(Talking W.O.T hard core pass ....)

The older heads 03-08 and the 6.1s you can lean them out and have good results , talking high 12's-13.1(.0787-.0763 total ,st+pe) the Eagle because of the flat quench area really should stay in the low to Mid 12's (.0833-.0804 total st+pe) I've pulled enough of these Eagle 5.7s apart with detonation marks in the quench area( I just lifted this photo off of Fake book tonight not mine, but good visual) to say there are a lot of "tuners" out there that lean 5.7s out too much and just don't know the level of hurt they are inflicting.

We have a stock 04 Ram , that's in for a 396/46RH conversion, this screen shot shows this thing is at.0900(11.1 AFR) on a full throttle pass , pulled the plugs at the end of the run(track rental deal) and they were nice Tan color @ 11.1 AFR, My old school 409 at 11.1 AFR the plugs like look they were in a Coal burner.

But I can not stress enough how every tune is different , every car/truck has it's own Happy place.

Great info in this posting on the Hemi happy place and this may help with my issues. Thank you. My more specific challenge is in another posting.

Yes, this is great info!! So, what I'm understanding is that there is room to lean it out some but, as rays04gtx pointed out, I should be conservative and limit myself to leaning by half a point. In the pic below, Dodge commands 12.5 (all cells with .0112 (+.0688 ST)) up until aircharge and RPM start running up into their max ranges. I do limit my RPMs and shift at the factory-redline 5150 "ish" (due to valvetrain limits of the stock system). Whenever I say that, I can still hear Sammy Hagar screaming "Fifty One Fifty!" from the Van Halen concert.

I will log a couple of WOT romps, just to check for KR and other PID's. I'll then lean out to a commanded 11.75:1, make the same romps while logging, and sneak up on 12.0:1 (.083 ST+FE). Until I get a wideband, I'll stop there....as long as KR is not an issue.

I've been focused on adding advance in & around the "cruise cells". I drive it 78 miles to the airport and then home again at the end of the week. The goal is to max highway mileage, now that I can tune it for the good 93 octane gas that I have access to here. There are hills, out on I-20, and so aircharge ranges from .30 - .60g, depending on terrain.

Thank you all for the excellent info and points to concider.
