    4l80e tuning downshift issues

Just trying to get this sorted. Was out and about and realized that often times my transmission is not kicking all the way down into 1st gear even some times when I am at a stop. Can anyone check this out and see what settings I might have missed/messed up. Still learning on the trans tuning stuff. I followed a guide that I found but some of the trans tables were different from what I am seeing on my screen. This has a 4l80e segment swap. Older tune, but the transmission section has not changed. For reference, trans is a built 80e with a 3800 rpm stall. Also, when putting it into 2nd manually it sometimes takes forever to downshift. Not sure if this is in my settings....I was under the impression that shifting manually to 2nd would automatically force it into 2nd gear. Same with downshifting manually into 1st.

Well seems it was just some of the downshift and shift points. Seems settled.

Try this based on my assumptions. Yours looks abit strange? May want to disable the Torque convertor lock in 3rd gear as well, depends on preference. Copy and paste the required parameters from this excel file to your tune file.

In your part throttle speed> shift speed vs TPS > normal table:
From 0-12% TPS, your 2>1 MPH needs to be lower than 3>2 MPH.
Your downshift MPH needs to be less than your upshift MPH and lower than the previous downshift if you can follow me.

In your part throttle TCC, Your TCC release is 56 MPH but then your 4>3 downshift is 22-29 MPH. So you are just riding around in 4th gear which from a performance standpoint is not optimal. Your tables are showing that you are spending a lot of time in 4th gear.

Your WOT upshift shift speed table is 0'd out.

Was this done based on a 3.73 or the 3.27? If there a place in the spreadsheet where I can change the rear gear?

Also here is the revisions I made previously as well as some based on powerzone's suggestions. I have not applied the speeds from the excell spreadsheet since I was not clear if they were meant for a 3.27 or a 3.73 yet. Thanks for the help guys. Trying to get it all ready for the track here next month so I can bust off some 9 second times!

If you use the shift MPH chart as Mowton suggested or bluecat's program, you will see what I mean once you plug in the info.

The Bluecat tool is pretty neat to use as a base, then you can tweak it based on your power curve or personal taste.

Your WOT Full throttle table should read the same as the 100% TPS column on your part throttle speed> shift speed vs TPS > normal table. You can just copy the column and past it to the Full throttle WOT table.

I had actually purposely left the shift speeds low for WOT as I wanted to go more by RPM. Is this the wrong approach? I was under the impression that the 2 criteria of speed and rpm had to be met before the car would shift, so by leaving the speed targets low it would kind of default to the rpm as the speed would be hit quite easily before rpm target.

    Sarg,

To help visualize graphically ( I need that) what you shifts and TCC are doing, here are the values inserted into a tool I use (not sure who to give credit to) to fine tune transmission values vs. actual performance on the street/track.

    Hope they help

Ed that is great. What rpm are you assuming the shift to target? Are you targeting 5900 and thinking it will happen at 6400?

    Thank you for the props.

No, you can leave your current rpm settings and see how they work with the new tranny settings. If you know the torque curve of your setup, you would want to set the rpm values to stay around this area prior to and just after when the tranny actually shifts. The goal obviously is to stay around the power curve during shifts.

My thought based on some various transmission tutorials was to set shift rpm about 6250 as the actual shift can be as late as 500 rpm past this point. My redline is actually 6800 so I figure even if it goes 500 rpm past the set point it still shifts before it hits the limiter.

Latest rendition based on your figures. The thing that worries me in both of these is the 3>4 tables. Seems like it is going to lug the engine a good bit. It does not like being below about 2000 in 3rd or 4th much. But we will see. Maybe with the tcc lock being higher it will be ok.

TC should only be locking in cruise and to save gas :-).....it is a preference thing. see how it goes,

Looks good for base shift points to start with.

This is the part that has been mentioned about personal taste and preference.

You can adjust it as you go.
