Off Board Programming 2010+ E38 with SPS

Last night I successfully reprogrammed an 07 E38/T42 combo, an 08 E38/T42 combo and an 08 E67 with my home brewed benchtop system using GM SPS. The 2010+ E38's would not work, SPS would recognize that the system was not in a vehicle and not let me proceed. Does anyone know a work around? maybe install a BCM? From another thread on here I guess E37's do not work either.

That's weird. I've been able to bench flash 2014 stuff with a MDI out of a vehicle.

I am using a MongoosePro 2 GM pass thru. I think this is a recent development based on the opinions of others.

Attempted to use my 2010 Silverado as a surrogate and it didn't work. It hung up at a screen where you have to enter a security code for the VIN.

security code for the vin? Are you using gm's Tis2web sps?? Can you post a pic, I'm just curious?

I just programmed a 2013 5.3 E38 ecm on the bench last week with a diy bench adapter and a gm MDI...

Yes Tis2Web SPS. I think the trick is the MDI. Dsteck was using an MDI too. I need to get this thing programmed for my customer. Did you program a service ECM or a used one? I should mention the one I am trying to program is a used ECM.

I've bench flashed E67s out the ass all the way up to 2014. I've never done a 2010+ Camaro E38, but I can't imagine there's anything special about it. I've heard of E92s not allowing it, but I've never tried. I admittedly haven't bench flashed anything in a month or so, so I don't know if GM changed anything on SPS.

I have access to an MDI but its painful to coordinate when I can use it. I sent if off to DSteck this morning to have him try it, thanks for the offer though.

I've had this issue with a few VIN's on the E38. I've had to make a separate harness that holds a BCM. The BCM has a VIN loaded on it and the TIS system will read that vin as the vehicle, but then I can change it and proceed to programming the ECM with the correct file.

I've flashed E67's, E38's and E92's all off board with the MDI. I was programming a VIN into an E38 once and did run into the security code problem, so it isn't just an isolated problem.

Has anyone figured anything out about this yet?

I am getting ready to buy the sps subscription but if it does not support off vehicle programming then that would suck.

Wouldnt the BCM have to have the same vin to allow access? You would have to have a matching set for every ECM that you programmed.

I was just going to ask the same question.. I just tried to program a E38 with a 2010 VIN and it would not let me do it. I had to connect it to my vehicle. Wasn't really a big deal as I was going to swap it anyways, but would have been nice to do it before the install.

I'm not sure why you guys are having issues. I never have a problem with my MDI. Once in a blue moon, I have to use the competitor's cable to enter the VIN that I want to use before I flash with the MDI.

I'm using the Bosch Mastertech MVCI with E38 harness from EFI Connection. I replaced my 2009 ECU with a newer 2010+ ECU. I tried to program a 2010 and 2011 VIN and it would not let me. Installed the ECU into my vehicle and it took both 2010 and 2011 VINs without a problem.

I should have tried to reprogram my 2009 ECU after removing it to see if it would work, but I didn't.

    DSteck,
ACDelco TDS blocks, GM TIS does not,I suspect these guys are all using TDS and not GM TIS

There is a work around but not worth the aggravation for most.

I was using TDS, didn't think about using TIS. Probably wont have a need to reprogram anytime soon, but will try TIS next time.

I've not had problems in the past reprogramming a couple E67's with the GM MDI (and my homebuilt programming adapter) but recently have E4399 error with both the MDI and Mongoose Pro GM2 (of course my HPtuners works well with my adapter)
I caught wind that GM may be blocking "offboard" programming...
    can anyone verify this?
I know the SPS / Tis2web site looks vastly different lately, is this a new change with the new site?
I really like to make 100% sure that my ECM's are up to date with all the latest software from GM before I ever try to tune them, and this is getting to be a pain in the ass

any of you guru's with a benchtop programming setup willing to verify this?

and if so ... whats the solution? maybe add a BCM?
often times it is so much easier for the customer to mail me their ECM.. this would suck if we have to have the car on site all the time

I literally just benched a 2010 Corvette E38 with no issues using a MDI and SPS.

    thanks for the fast reply...

    your bench programming adapter....
    home made?
    just wires?... with resistors?

I was thinking about buying the pro level one that EFI Connection makes

    maybe its my adapter?
for some reason I have never had a problem with HP Tuners with it
but now this GM software will not work at all
well... it does work on the older ECU's (think old Cavalier style)
