I'm using the EFI professional harness and cannot program off board. I sent Mike at EFI Connection an email about this and never heard back.

Forget the exact message, but was "off board programming detected" and would not allow me to continue.

Just reprogramming original/updated OS via TDS.

I've done many modules off-board recently. ECMs, radios, FPCMs and all have programmed just fine with TIS and the MDI.
There is an MDI-2 coming down the pipe since GM just released the new software to support it.

Forgot I wrote it down on a piece of paper.

"M6413: Off-board Programming Detected" and will not allow me to continue; it just restarts.

I do it all the time. I have a homemade bench top harness that I made up, but I also run a BCM on it.
I can flash the ECU or BCM bench top with a J2534 pass thru and GM SPS.
It doesn't seem to make any difference what BCM I have hooked up it still will flash the ECU. But if you have a BCM or TCM on your bench top harness you have to have all of them plunged in or jumper out the Can high and low wires as they run thru each module.

if I am reading this right, the BCM allows it to pass the "off board programming detected"?

I wouldn't say that. I just so happen to need to program BCM's so I added it to my cable. Unless something has changed you should be able to program any GM ecu with a valid license to GM SPS and a off board programing J2534 Tool.

I did run into some errors when programing after trying to load the wrong calibration into a E38. I thought 12625455 ECU was for 2009-2010 and after putting a 2010 calibration in it, it bricked.

Here is what I found for E38's
    2007 19210738
    2008 12612384
    2009 12625455
    10-13 12633238

That's the problem we are trying to address, or at least I am. Using a Bosch Mastertech MVCI and EFI Connection stand alone harness I am unable to program using TDS.

I just programed a 2013 E38 using a OTC J2534 and GM SPS, homemade harness with a BCM. Worked fine. Im not using AC delco TDS so I know its not exactly apple to apples.

I think people using SPS won't have issues.

    sorry.. yes..
the problem I had MUST have been in my homemade adapter
once I plugged in the EFI Connection "pro" adapter it worked like butter!

Was just gonna say, I've never had issues with MDI and SPS either. More than 90% of the stuff I do is on the bench. Sometimes I don't have the engine harness or bench harness, so I end up just making something with pins and still don't have any issues.

the weird part for me was that HPT worked fine with my home-made adapter, but not GM stuff...
