Tuning 160* Thermostat 2015 Mustang GT

Lasota's book says System -> Fans -> Electric fans and to drop all temps 10-15 degrees.

It is a little unclear what temperatures to lower.

    Desired ECT is 212* F

Fan Speed vs. ECT vs. Ambient is:

    % 200 212 223 223 223 223 ?F
    24 0 40 100 100 100 100
    70 0 40 100 100 100 100
    80 0 40 100 100 100 100
    90 0 40 100 100 100 100
    100 0 40 100 100 100 100
    110 0 40 100 100 100 100
    ?F

There is also vs Trans Temp and AC Pressure

Do I change all of these? Or just ECT?

    Should I have something like 160, 180, 195, 215, 223, 223

And change Desired ECT to something lower than 212? 195? 180? 160?

    Thanks!

With a 160* tstat I would edit the columns and rows to suit. I like my fan setting so the fan comes on above the normal operating temperature just so the fan doesn't run all the time. Maybe start at 180/190 for the first column. Why run the fan when the engine is cooled by forward motion air when moving.

I've attached an example of a column change. I can't show you actually changed without being licensed. You can change the rows same way.

Not sure why Ford runs 100% at the higher temps but GM recommends no more than 90% in all the GM cars I've owned.

    I've continued to Google. VMP says with a 170* They want 50% at 180 and 100% at 200 http://vmptuning.com/11-50l-cooling/ford-50/

I've been toying with this idea

    Code:
    %	160	170	180	200	215	223	?F
    24	0	0	50	100	100	100
    70	0	0	50	100	100	100
    80	0	40	50	100	100	100
    90	0	50	60	100	100	100
    100	0	55	70	100	100	100
    110	0	60	75	100	100	100
    ?F
Since this is a lower t stat I've adjusted the range accordingly. Maybe the 170 column and values aren't necessary.

Should I changed Desired ECT to lower it from 212? Since I'm lowering the temp of the t stat 20 degrees, take it down to 192-195?

His table looks like a good first try then tailor it to your liking. I have an idea the fan will run continuously with that table though.

Where did you find a 160* for a Mustang? I have a GT500 and 170 is all I've found. Maybe the GT500 is different. And they are ridiculously expensive for a thermostat!

    Livernois http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/...hermostat.html

They don't seem to have a t stat for GT500's though...and you're right, everyone but Livernois wants an incredible amount of money for a t stat.

Livernois also does they own tuning, have you thought about reaching out to them and see what they use or would recommend as far as the fan settings go. Might be worth a shot.

The impression I get with Livernois is that they're very close to the vest with their tuning/parameters and aren't likely to share any details..but I guess I can try and ask.

I'll be damned. Livernois actually got back with me. Not a full blown tune, but mentioned starting at 175* and going from there. So it's a start!

    Any updates on this?
The Livernois 160F t-stat is a modified hot-side thermostat. The Reische t-stats are 170F and are modified cold-side thermostats with the bypass valve on the bottom. Reische didn't have any recommendations for the Coyote and EcoBoost engine fan settings. I was curious what changes you've made and what has worked.

For my SHO, I found just changing the Desired ECT setting worked out. I went from stock 212F to 200F with the factory 180F t-stat and it has kept my ECT around 200F. The table for fan speed vs ECT and trans fuid / AC looked like it wouldn't necessarily control when the fan turns on, more like what speed it will operate based on ECT/TFT/AC pressure.

But I'm still trying to see what everyone else has done for their lower temp t-stats. My *guess* is that I should change desired ECT to about 190F but I want to make sure it doesn't just keep the fan running all the time in warmer temperatures. I know that in the winter time, the 170 seems to keep the engine very cool as my temperature gauge is swinging up and down depending on airflow and engine load. If I rev it in neutral the temp gauge actually drops down.

It will take some playing around with but will depend on what the customer i looking for.

If it was me I would set the desired ETC to 190*, Then for ECT vs ambient temp I would have the fans kick on at:

    40% at 190*
    50% at 195*
    75* at 210
    100% at 220*+

The AC stuff I would leave alone since the ECT will activate the fans much sooner than AC pressure would anyway...

yea as everyone says I have a buick regal and put a 180 stat in mine I adjusted the fan on temp a tiny bit above 180 and off bellow it but look like the fans u have are variable
and turn on at pecents kinda neat but id just keep the peramiters as I said on at a tiny bit above the tstat and then when she cools off kick off its really simple

Yeah the Coyote fans aren't just a lo/hi like some cars, you can set their "duty cycle" as I call it, the percentages are just a reference to full speed. Where 40%=40% of your full speed...so this lets you set them lower too if you want them to kick on earlier but not be loud.

oh I see so ther a variable resistance control system like lincon does there suvs nice those are trouble and do go bad over time, and are very costly
