    BA 5.4 V8 VSS Input ABS to Hall

    Hi All.

    BA 5.4 V8 AUTO OS:HABNCJ8
    How do we get PCM to accept hall signal on speed input?

    I see this topic has been started a number of times and remaining unresolved. There seems to be many people seeking an answer.
    So I'm going back down this road.

    Engine transplanted into another car. Running fine. No codes except VSS (vehicle speed sensor) related, which is explained below.

    In the stock Falcon the PCM gets the VSS signal from the ABS unit.
    Anyone know what the signal is? I know for sure it's not square wave or AC. I suspect dome kind of data?

    Now the engine is transplanted, there is no ABS unit to send VSS signal to the PCM. So the typical procedure is to fit a hall effect sensor to the trans output shaft.

    Last time I did a conversion such as this I used a competitors software to change the VSS source to accept a digital (hall) signal. So it can be done.
    This time I would rather do it with HPT SW.

    I know the BA Falcon Ute with no abs has the stock configuration to support this, but I suspect the code change is outside the parameters HPT can currently modify?

    Please, someone tell me it's possible with HPT.

    Someone suggested toggling SPEEDO>GENERAL>VSS OUT VIA SCP
    And I did try this with no success, but USE VID was enabled so maybe USE VID should have been disabled to enable the SCP change?

    Does it really need a VSS? YES, the trans won't shift and wants to stay in 3rd gear without it. I don't think there is a way to fudge the shifting without the VSS - anybody??

    PS: I have emailed support about this, but 2 weeks later I'm still in the dark.

    Any comments appreciated. Can supply stock file if required...

    Im still waiting around too mate. Glad there is a few more interested in getting the vss option.

    I too had too use sct to change the vss source. I hope hp tuners will add this option soon

    SOLVED

    Thanks to the team at HPT. This is now sorted. V2.5B has option to select VSS Source.
    SPEEDO>VSS SOURCE

    Anyone wanting to do it, may take a while before it's implemented across the calibrations that it relates to. But it works perfect on HABNCJ8.

    Yet another step forward! Great work guys..

    So you at it to Hall effect, then set the pulses/km or similar in the respective table? Will this work for the ZF also? Say you convert a motor and ZF into an old school car?

    The ZF and any box will work fine.
    The factory default is to use the speedo cal stored in the vid block.
    So just disable the vid block, set VSS source to OSS. Then you can specify all the other factors. OSS tooth count. Diff ratio. Wheel revs per distance. NV base etc etc

    Thanks Jet,

    Certainly better than what we currently have. I would suggest a larger surface area for positive interface on the detection tool to ensure accurate knock detection with optimum signal transmission from the block to the tool.

    Now we are using proven technology from a reliable interface, from your wealth of knowledge any suggestions on how we log it?

    AH!..... you have solved the problem!

    Now for VCM Suite to intergrate this into the 2.25 scanner and the ford scanner will become the quality functional product it is for GM cars.

    just curious if/when the vss source is being added to other strategies?
    i've emailed support so not here whinging, was just hoping it would be added to more with the 3.0 update.
    have 2 strategies it would help a lot to have vss source in!

    These are screen shots from 2 various calibrations, I did test another 3 or so varying from 2009 to 2013 which didn't have it mapped out so I'm guessing you just have to ask support to add your definition & wait.

    i've only found it in BA HACCKD5 i6 ,HABNCK3 v8, 1 BF HACCKBC and no FG.
