It is bad when they won't even reply. Sadly I bought an R/T Dakota assuming there was tuning software. Seems it is probably easier to do an LS swap because you can tune them.

It?s here! Older dodge all unlocked, trying to figure out how to log a 1998 dodge ram 1500 5.2. Timing, fuel, all PIDs seem to be unknown. No default vehicle PIDs...

You and me both. I've never tuned anything but the data logging feature seems straightforward enough -except it doesn't do anything when connected to my 1998 Ram 1500 5.9. If I'm being honest I don't even know what a PID is. What I do know (having read both vehicles) is why a 5.9 grand Cherokee requires premium gasoline even though it has the same engine as my Ram.

Keep me posted. I tried again today. With the updated beta. Was able to connect to the truck. But nothing else after that. Tried to scan it and got a ?protocol not detected?

  9. #49
I am still waiting for the battery but in the meantime i was able to read my 96 Jeep GC 5.2L. I had that same protocol not found thing and I had to pull the ABS fuse in the interior fuse box for it to work. Also, make sure you have an internet connection while you are reading the file or it wont work.

I got the new battery in and was able to read the truck and it now includes tuning for transmission parameters which is great

ive been looking at those transmission tables more... in my personal application i will probably leave them alone because i have the trans modded internally to get the shifts where i want but if your trans is stock then this could be a good option. As far as I know, until right now, there has been no option to make transmission adjustments besides shift rpm and converter lockup rpm in the computer. Generally all shift pressures and other characteristics were accomplished by internal adjustments to the trans, valve body, or throttle valve on the throttle body. Because of this I feel like there is probably very little info out there on exactly what tables will make what changes. not sure if you have the stock torque converter or aftermarket but if you have a higher stall, it helps to move the part throttle shift rpms (in the shift scheduling tab) up a bit because in any given gear at any given speed your rpms will automatically be higher than stock with the higher stall converter so you dont want the truck shifting into the next gear too soon because all that does is make it feel slower and heat up the transmission fluid that much easier. This helped a lot for me to make the driveability better.

on a side note, the wierd thing about when i read my truck was that it basically read the pcm as if there were two different pcms in there even though there arent. both the same os and part number and it basically gave every setting in the tune file a duplicate entry. Not sure why this happened but I am going to read it again soon and see if this still happens.

I'm also seeing duplicates in the files I have. These are older files that haven't been read recently so I doubt a fresh read will fix it, but who knows?
