hptuners laptop switch help

so I bought a new surface 3 pro to use for tuning for on the go cause my battery is horrible on my regular laptop. but now ive learned I cant scan new cars like 05 and up with my laptop anymore just gen 3. but I can do it on my surface pro 3. anyone know why this would be sometimes I like using my laptop more for the cars sitting in the shop but it wont let me read the file.

Which version of the software are you using (2.24 or 3.0)? And are you sure you have the same version on both device (the exact same version)?

What version of HPT are you using on both laptops?

There's no change in what you can scan. If you just switched to the new V3 version of HP Tuners software then you will be able to tune MORE cars as a lot of new models have been added, but you will not lose any compatibility with older models.
