    Tuning lt1 with hptuner

I'm installing a 96 transam lt1 in a 72 chevy pickup and wondering if anyone has found a way to tune that pcm with hptuners even if it's only to remove the vats. The engine will turnover but not start, when I remove the optispark from the engine and turn by hand it sparks like crazy. I't as if the motor is grounding out the optispark any ideas what this could be?

HPtuners don't support LT1 pcm, I've been reading that the pcm in my 97 C1500 is very similar to yours and also not supported but it's supposedly not very difficult for me to swap to the 98-00 pcm maybe you could do the same, or we could upgrade to the 0411 pcm but I think it's much easier/cheaper for me. Your best bet may be to send your pcm to someone that specializes in LT1 tuning.

Get a 95 b or f body PCM and do a OBD1 conversion. I recall it's adding a resistor in line with the knock sensors. Some folks actually modify the PCM internally.

Then you can tune with Tunercat or the like and a regular serial cable.
