Tunerlocking and HPT Locking in VCM Suite 3.0

If you want to lock your tune, there are 2 options available in VCM Editor 3.0: Tuner Lock and HPT Lock. These locks are only available for select controllers. Locking may not be available for all controllers. See the images below if you have questions on whether or not your controller supports either of these methods to lock your tune.

    Tuner Lock
Tuner Locking is a great way to lock your tune from both HP Tuners users and other users. You can find out if your controller supports Tuner Locking by opening your tune file and going to "Tune Details". Under the "Controllers" tab, you will see "Security Key" with a key directly to the right of that text. And right below that key you will see "<Double Click to Change Lock>". (See image below)

To enable the Tuner Lock: Double click the text in the Tune Details window that says "<Double Click to Change Lock>". This will change the Security Key from the stock Security Key to a different Security Key and a Tuner Lock ID that corresponds to your MPVI. The file will then be locked after you write the vehicle. (See Image Below) (Must Write Entire for all controllers EXCEPT E38 PCMs. For vehicles equipped with an E38 PCM, you must select "Write VIN/Tunerlock/VATS" in the 'Vehicle Writer' window.)

To disable the Tuner Lock: Open the Tuner Locked tune file with VCM Editor and double click the same text that you previously clicked to lock the file. This will remove the Tuner Lock. The file will then be unlocked after you write the vehicle (Must Write Entire for all controllers EXCEPT E38 PCMs. For vehicles equipped with an E38 PCM, you must select "Write VIN/Tunerlock/VATS" in the 'Vehicle Writer' window.) (NOTE: You must use the install of VCM Editor that has the Application Key entered for the MPVI that you used to Tuner Lock the file originally)

    HPT Lock
HPT Locking is a way to protect your tunes from being read or modified by other HP Tuners users only. You can find out if your controller supports HPT Locking by opening your tune file and going to "Tune Details". Under the "Controllers" tab, you will see "HPT Lock ID" if HPT Locking supported. (See image below)

To enable the HPT Lock: Double click the text in the Tune Details window that says "<Double Click to Change Lock>". This will change the HPT Lock ID from "(Blank)" to an ID number that corresponds to your MPVI. The file will then be locked after you write the vehicle. (Write Calibration or Write Entire will work) (See Image Below)

To disable the HPT Lock: Open the HPT Locked tune file with VCM Editor and double click the same text that you previously clicked to lock the file. This will remove the HPT Lock. The file will then be unlocked after you write the vehicle (Write Calibration or Write Entire will work) (NOTE: You must use the install of VCM Editor that has the Application Key entered for the MPVI that you used to HPT Lock the file originally)

    Hi Mark,
Any updates on this topic? specially since posted, MPVI2 and much more supported vehicles ECU's . And can u explain to me the use of the key blank with zeros and the check tick to select custom I guess, in the (Write box) when writing back to the ECU.
    Thanks.
