Yes, thank you. All good. Switched my PCM over with another and I'm now finally able to tune my car.

Btw I read that you need a minimum of 11.5v to "Write". My volts are 11.6-11.7 at the "module" right after taking my battery off the charger and while/during "writing". Just made it

For better or worse I've done plenty of writes in the 11.5V range.. I've only had it screw up once. I put a charger on it and re-flashed it a few minutes later and it completed the 2nd time no problem
Post a log and tune if you want help

Angry x36 exceed number of attempts

im having this same issue since updating. my 1999 silverado allowed me to tune it a month ago and since the update i get this message but i can tune my buddy's 2007 escalade. iv left my battery on the charger all night to make sure the voltage it tip top and iv tried disconnecting my battery so it resets iv tried downloading older operating systems and iv even had a 3.5 beta installed and nothing still. im waiting on hptuner to reply with what to try next. the scanner still works on mine as well. i don't think my ecm is corrupt bc everything runs fine on my truck and i know for sure i didn't lock it with the last tune

Have you ever had it go below 11.5v? I'm guessing it dipped below 11.5 that time it screwed up on you..

What I don't understand is I get the same amount of volts at my OBD2 plug (pin16) as my battery pos+ (both 12.64v for eg.), but when I have HPT hooked up and running, it reads around 11.6-11.7v FYI my volts at my ignition switch (constant 12v) usually reads around 11.79. So it's like HPT is getting power from my ignition and not from my OBD2 plug

Here's an interesting issue I had today. Customer brought truck to be tuned after another tuner. Boom, x36 code. Sent him back to previous tuner to have it unlocked. Still no go for me. Previous tuner can flash no problem and verified it was unlocked. I could do shit. I swapped the ecm for a used one and tuned the truck no problem

Try waiting 7-8 seconds after turning the ignition on before clicking "Read".. see if that does the trick. Let me/us know. Seemed to work for me (not on my ex-PCM which my ex-tuner locked. The car I got my current PCM out of).

Hey guys, I know this thread hasn't popped up in a while but I am now having this issues. When I try to write a new tune I get "Controller unlocker: x36 exceeds number of attempts". This is the same ECM that I purchased credits for myself and have tuned multiple times. Why is this happening? My car will not drive properly with the current tune and need to change the tune but I'm not able to.

If the suggestions in this thread haven't helped, you'll likely need to open a support ticket.

Make sure you send them your VCM info log and Debug.dat files to expedite it. I'm going through the same issue. X35 and x36 errors. This is on an LB7 Duramax. I was able to read and write the TCM just fine, but couldn't read the ECM.

Ok, I am having this same issue with a Silverado I flashed years ago that went thru a lot of issues time after and dealer finally found some liquid on some in-cabin modules.

I have three different ECMs dealer flashed, all give the same X36 error.

I am sending debug and info to support with a link to this thread.

I am having the same issue with a 96 z28 camaro. The car sat up for several years before i got ahold of it and another year after the motor was built. I can scan it just fine but i cannot access the tune at all in vcm editor. It doesnt even recognize or offer the accurate engine option in the drop down menu.

i filled out a ticket on this issue and got a reply today from christopher martinez and he said that if you have a x 36 exceeded number of attempts then that means your ecm is tuner locked and that my ability to read the tune is disabled but to try the forum because there are tuners on the forum that know how to unlock my ecm.

96 Z28 is not a HPT supported vehicle. Only Tunercat OBD2, Jet DST or even rarer LT1Edit for 96-97 Z28s.

Oh Hell, I didnt even look at the supported vehicle list to check that, I just assumed it would be supported.

Any chance of HPT adding support for these f body pcm's??
