    13 pin 4l60e with 2010+ T42

    Hey guys,

I have a bit of an oddball situation here. I have a cammed LS3 on a 2010+ E38 (os 12635859, i don't recall service no off the top of my head) and a T42 (os 2423357) controlling a built 13pin 60e all rocking a 2010 express van OS pair in a standalone situation using a PSI harness.

I'm having an issue with the t42 throwing a range switch code and it generally not working right. It doesn't seem to see or do anything with the states of the internal pressure switches in the trans. it will up/downshift via mph but when you manually move drom D-3-2-1 the trans shifts but the reported gear stays at whatever gear corresponds to the tps/mph that youd expect from the shift schedule. The TCC also does not lock up. I can lock it with 2 way controls but the tcm never commands a lock, probably because its confused as hell with no ISS and whatever is going on with the internal pressure switches.

The OS is for a 17 pin 60e and from what I can tell they are pinned slightly different and the PSI harness is setup for a 15 pin 60e.

The shop that built the trans tested it before shipping it to us so I trust its mechanically and electrically fine.

So my question to you all is, do any of you have a good os pair that works with the older 60es but newer T42 os?
Or can i throw an 07 or so TCM os on here and it'll talk with the e38? Since this is a standalone deal i dont care about abs/bcm compatibility as long as the ecm/tcm are sending each other the right info over can

You asked specifically about the TCM. You need a 2008+ operating system. 2009+ would be preferable.

so new update; put in a 2008 e38 and flashed a virgin stock 08 silverado os 12617631 with matching tcm os 24239927 and i'm getting the exact same issue.

What is a 17 pin 4l60e? I am only familiar with the 13 pin and the 15 pin of 07-08 with the ISS. I know a little due to have been through some of this on my 07 Tahoe.

17 pin is 10+ up i think; all i know is the van wiring showed 17 pins used. the pressure/range switches look like they moved location and the line pressure solenoid was different.

either way I manged to make this work. On the dyno at least it seems happy. Hopefully next week nicer weather i can do thorough road testing.

Trans shifts as scheduled, TCC kicks on and off as expected and line pressure modulates normally.

The way I made it work using stock 08 silverado 2wd base 12617631 and tcm 24239927 (flashed with MDI) was to leave ALL diagnostic switches and all TCM P codes stock (p0716 and 17) and under the trans general tab set iss fitted to disable and iss after od to disable. also under tm i set stall tq mgt above normal rpm ranges and set all tq reduction to 0 (in abuse and the 4 patterns) and set reduction duration under abuse to .1. I tried almost every combination of switches on and off and p codes and this is the only one that would not either pull all the timing out or cause the ETC to not open fully.

This did unfortunately kill tq managment between shifts but this is a "built" trans on a pretty tame LS3 crate engine so I think it'll be ok.

Also on engine side I massaged the coeffecients to match within about 15% of what engine was actually producing on the dyno and maxxed out and disabled every value under the engine - tq managment - general tab.

this will be the last time I try to use a pre ISS 60e with a T42 lol

Well I didn't even know the 4l60e or 4l70e whatever it is was used after 08. Anyways, glad you got it running and working. Thanks for sharing what you did also.

    computerjlt ...

Sorry for the late reply - just noticed this thread. Good job sorting it out.

Just to be clear ... you did not wire the Gear Position Switch inputs to the T42 ?

No; all it had was the internal pressure switches in the transmission. iirc the prndl switch goes over CAN on those but i could be mistaken. the transmission itself had no provisions for a switch on the shifter lever.

i would not recommenced that setup at all!

i'm about to start a similar car with 2010 e38 with a van os and matching t42. i might have to play musical OS's but i'll report back if anyone is interested

Sorry to bring up another issue on an older thread, but I feel like you guys have more knowledge on this than I do and my problem is along these lines perhaps.

I am running an E38 from a 2008 Yukon OS1250216 and a T42 computer and harness from what I believe to be a 2007 Silverado OS24239927. I had an older 4L60e in it that lost 3rd and 4th gear (possibly from wrong tune settings?). I just picked up another 4L60e from a 2009 Silverado and installed it.

The problem is that the trans is going into 2nd gear only. I believe it has communications, as the scanner tool showed trans temp and gear selector position. I can't even get it to take a command for a different gear or lock the TCC with Scanner.

Attached is the tune that I was using prior to putting this 2009 trans in.

    Thanks,
    Joe

Computerjlt, I have similar issues. I have a crate ls376/480 and 2002 13 pin 4l60e. Do you have a copy of the tune you used to make it work? Currently running e38/t42 ecm/tcm and 2009 5.3 Silverado tune modded by psi. It was set up for 17 pin, I corrected the wiring but now need to correct the tune.

Did you ever corect the wiring and if so how did you do it? I have a 2010 harnes with 17 pin and want to convert it to a 15 pin harness
