How much TM would be safe to get rid off?

Im asking this for a daily driver with a person with a heavy foot. I left about 10% intact, but my heart is feeling my trans and I don't know if 10% would be good to leave it on in the long run.. what do u guys think???

Its not the tranny that will go first, its the rear.

alright, well taking a look at my dynoe graphs, do u think the 4L60e and other components would stand up to about 30whp extra then that stated??

no they won;t, unless you are talking about what your horsepower rating is, then you are fine.... every 4L60E i have seen that has had more than the rating put down to it has broken.... but you can beef them up for pretty cheap... i spent 300 on a new Red Alto band, a Raybestos 7 clutch pack, 4L65E rebuild kit for the internals, and a billet servo, and my trans barkes when it shifts and should last a long time with no TM at all

and as for your initial question i would remove all TM

Jaronow, I hafta disagree... the 4L60e is pretty beefy for a stock trans. It's rated up to 360 Ft/lbs in the colorado... I would hafta imagine that the one in the TB, if not the same, would hafta be rated for more.

Honestly, I think if your just throwing a tune at an Intake/exhaust truck, the 4L60 will handle whatever your gonna throw at it.

no see i was saying if he is taking it over the 360 rating it will snap like a pea pod... it happens all the time

if he was asking about adding abother 30 hp on his 230 or so then he is fine....and i think i even posted the 300 bucks in parts of so you need to buy to beef the 4L60E up to around 400RWHP with neck breaking shifts if you want

glad that made the birthday easy... those parts are cheap, and you can install everything your self... it took my 2 and a half days because i didn;t want to mess anything up or it only takes a good tranny shop most of a day to install it all and get your truck out.... but man do they make a difference... my trans can bark 2nd and 3rd like no other now... i can;t belive how crappy the stock 4L60E actually is until you put these parts in.... there are still some other things you need eventuially like a new sun shell and few other parts... once i do those i'll post them up though

The 60e in my 5.3 Silvy, has not had any TM for about 10mo., w/ pretty firm shifts. I have not had any problems to speak of yet.
I'm in the process of learning the "I" family (4,5,6)
I was pretty impressed with newly found power hiding in the 05 TB I tuned, which was a basic TM removal and .5* timing added to Hi Octane table and firming shifts.
I am still having trouble Scanning the "I" family, if anyone could lead me in the right direction.........................................

how do u mean my scanning?? If you mean by custom histo's trust me it ain't easy! Half the things that we need don't have a fucntional PID or sensor so we're left with pretty much the basic...

here's a good link to find out more bout the I6.. www.trailvoy.com

If you'd like a copy of my street and dyno tuned file let me know and ill send it over to you.

That's what I was afraid of. The 1 TB(05) I did "unlock" I could feel a much bigger difference than after tuning stock V8 imo. What a sloppy stock shift............
I did notice that under TM /abuse, was disabled in the stock file.

I can deal w/ basic for a while, I also see a VVT education in the future............
said she had a 4dr corvette now.
I'd like to compare files @ [email protected]

    Arggghhh!
Just when I thought I was figuring thid stuff out.........

Are the I5's that much diff. than the I6's?

I havn't even hooked up to a I4 yet, although my sister just got 06 Colbalt n/a Auto, 2dr. She's just now approaching 1k mi. Figured I'd let her get 3k or so before tuning.

From what I remember... the trans is the same thing. A 4L60 is a 4L60 no matter what its behind, for the most part.

The engine, despite the fact that the I-5 and the 2.8 I-4 are based off the I6, they are completely different beasts when it comes to tuning.

Not exactly, spyhunter...**make sure your trans can take it**....people dont say that just for the helluvit...

Of course, stickier tires are a good investment any day of the week, regardless of your TM status
