    More than a scanner?

Will this scanner do actuator tests? if not, what are some recommendations for a tool to compliment this software? just bought the hp pro and so far the scanner is great. Just need the extra tool to do actuator and solenoid tests. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you

Yes sir,...I'm doing them right now on a 4L60e 1-2 and 2-3 shift solenoids. You can cycle them on/off with the scanner - key on engine off (don't know if they'll cycle with engine running, ain't tried that yet - I'd imagine they will).

Open Scanner and connect to your vehicle - then go to "vehicle" menu (top left) - then go down to "Controls and Special Functions" - it'll open a box screen wherein you'll see several tabs,....one is labeled transmission - go through those tab/screens and you'll see items like 1-2 shift solenoid on-off, etc. Lots of other stuff in this Controls and Special Functions screens,....good tool.

You can even start scanning to verify your solenoids are being commanded to cycle on/off,....as long as your Channels list has the PID listed for them. It won't tell you if there physically changing,...simply what's being commanded,...you'll have to drop the pan and feel them clicking on/off to verify actual changing.

    Hope this helps man.

Sweet, so if I find a alternator PID I can activate it?

I'm not connected to my truck right now,....But, I don't remember anything bout an alternator in the "Controls and Special Functions" section. Did you go out to your vehicle, connect and have a look at that section yet?

PID's are individual selected parameter you want to check/watch/record on the vehicle while your scanning,....like, MAF, map, etc, stft, etc,....

Say you go into the "controls and special functions" section and you want to cycle your 1-2 shift solenoid on/off,....and you want to see your PCM change it,...you can put that 1-2 shift solenoid PID in your Channels list, and see it cycle,.....

What alternator are you trying to control and what PCM are you trying to control it with?
Does your alternator look like this?

Yes pretty close, the connections are on the side though. I think the field wires are reversed as someone put a new pig tail on it. I wanted to energize the computer to be sure the positive is in the right one. With pigtail pulled key on the wires show very low voltage, then after key off and 10 seconds one has 12 volts. Plugging in the connecter while engine running will definitely change the way the alternator sounds ( drastically). alt puts out approx 14 v but kills the battery after a few days driving. I leaning towards a bad computer because I also have some drivability issues also.
Thanks for the responses fellow gear heads.
