Scanning without laptop in car

Can someone tell me how to set up my scanner to data log, I have the PRO unit, in the car while on track without the laptop being in the car? I have tried a few things, but none have worked yet. I see the lights on the unit, but when I try REC it goes into error.

If it goes into error, what do you have loaded to log? How many items? It can log several, but I have had it error like that, if I try to log too much. I honestly, don't use that feature much any more, I find it easier to bring my laptop, have real time data displayed, and then can pull over and re-flash or make a quick change at the track.
