Thread: Anyone having good results tuning a 2017 ZL1?

Anyone having good results tuning a 2017 ZL1?

I have a 2017 ZL1 A10 on the dyno. The car had normal baseline dyno numbers of 554/546 sae. I installed a package that we have used on many 2015/2016 Z06 A8 cars. 15% lower, Kooks Headers, Rotofab, thermostat and plugs. On all the Z06 cars I have equipped with this package I am in the 660/680 sae range and have four cars equipped with this package in the 9.70/9.80 1/4 mile range at the track. I have never done a 2017 Z06 or ZL1, so this could be a problem on my part but no matter what I do the car makes no power. I have almost 25 dyno pulls on this thing and I am in the 550/600 sae range. My highest is one run at 587/592, just once. I have no throttle issues, full 12.5 psi boost, 12.4 AFR, I have been 11.8 to 12.8 no difference and full timing with no torque management. Around 4k rpms I do pickup spark knock. I have logged everything and it appears to be real knock picked up on every cylinder. I have added Torco, little help removing it and played with knock sensitivity. I even removed all retard from the system and still made no change in power. I see lots of people on the internet working on 17 tuning issues but nothing has come of them. Any one have any ideas.

We are over 715 rwhp on our 10 speed ZL1, just reset the 1/4 mile record with it again this weekend.
Lingenfelter heads, mild cam, rotofab, Kooks LTH's, lower pulley, 12 psi and no meth. Not really any different then the other LT4 cars.
Keep a close eye on what the Variable Cam is doing. They like to over advance and power will drop like a rock. We lock it out when doing a cam swap.

Were you able to figure the issue out? I have a 17 ZL1 here that's doing the same. It's the same mods we did on a recent 16 Z06 but it won't make any power now and it keeps getting knock, which I feel is fake.

Another 17 ZL1 with the 10 speed auto we wrapped up recently.
Lingenfelter GT35 camshaft, LME ported heads, 1 7/8" headers with cats, Roto-Fab, lower pulley. 12 psi peak, 93 octane fuel, no meth .80-.82 lambda.
Keep an eye on the manifold air temp and the VVT. Not any different then the other LT4 cars.

We have a Whippled A10 ZL1 that should be hitting the dyno within the week or early next week at the latest. Our last ZL1was at ~660rwhp with just e85 and our intake, but it also baselined at 606rwhp. I will post up results after completion once this new one hits the rollers.

Just finished a 17 zl1 with tsp vvt cam, ported heads, rotofab intake, 15% lower(12psi), Headers with green cats, corsa exhaust. Car made 579/583 stock and 743/712 on e30, then tuned for 91oct as thats what customer has available and made 703/695. I will say iat really affects power output and needed substantial time to cool off between pulls. I run Pe 12.8 and tapper to 12.2 up top. What timing do you have in the car? Too low it will show retard as well.

agree veee8 and mowton (especially) absent here.
same issues on 17 a10 today. same power as before pulley change. and the phantom knock....this is making me loco.
the a10 has driver demand tables in axle torque unlike most everything else. i'm wondering if there's something about that.

On 12-13 psi with no pulley swap. Just close the bypass door all the way and will find a few psi of lost boost and WAY lower manifold temps. Can’t believe they use this to bleed boost off on the car stock and create that heat.

I’m getting pretty good results so far on mine with e50 mix and 12 psi. Retuning for long tubes shortly as putting headers on now. I am shocked at how small the stock exhaust is on this car. Post or pm me the tune and a log I’ll see what’s causing the issues. I can also send you my tune once tweak it for headers to look over.

What gear are you pulling it in? Pull it in 7th on the dyno with the A10.

have you found the gear to affect knock or the phantom knock? we couldn't do a baseline on ours because the convertibles have a speed limiter that 7th gear hits. had to wait until it was programmed, but then just ended up using same gear as we started which was 5th.

Yes, it will be down on power with phantom knock in 5th gear.

There is the small set screw on the end of the bypass rod turn it counter clockwise until you see it not touching the end of the rod. When my car was still stock I was able to gain a few psi and everyone I have told this to has gained some psi modded ported blowers to stock vehicle. GM is bleeding off pressure and rpm is heat regardless what the boost is at due to this bypass so best to use all you can get and bleed none of it off.
