    s10 4.3 camshaft offset

What would cause the camshaft offset to be -7.5?
The distributor isn't really adjustable but shouldn't it improve performance to set it properly?

    I have a 2002 s10 4.3 with 107,000 miles and it has +1.5 camshaft offset.
The one with -7.5 is a 2003 with 172,000 miles. Would a worn timing chain cause this?

If you're within +-10*, that is as close as it's going to get. You could modify the hold down to get it closer. No difference in performance getting it to 0.

I got it to under 1.0. It feels more powerful, or it's a placebo effect.
Or more like it doesn't feel down on power like it used to.

Your distributor gear is most likely very worn - common problem on these... The closer to 0 the cam sync is the better off you are - they typically idle a little smoother and run better around there...

Gear isn't worn, shaft isn't worn.
    Know anything about this? https://www.hptuners.com/forum/showt...the-engine-off
Cam offset doesn't change by even 10 degrees on the scanner unless I shut the engine off. It sucks to have had to adjust it like that. That means I move the distributor and nothing changes until I turn the engine off and restart it. yet it shows 0 degrees but goes +/- .8 when driving.

You need to raise the RPM to at least 1000 to get an accurate offset value.

AND typically a throttle snap will allow it to show the updated value...

the 4.3 specs are +/- 20, only the 5.7 are 0. allot of wrong info on the internet about this. as long as your not +/- 26(a tooth off) or more your distributor is set right and the computer will compensate to where its programmed. but if u want to adjust it more. pop the holdown off and shave the insides of the U part down to make it adjustable. but still ecm takes over and adjust accordingly. make sure u are revving the engine to over 2500 rpm to get the correct reading.
