Hello,
What is the best way to introduce popping on decel on a 6.1 SRT?
How can I control it??
(What I mean is the exhaust pooping sound)
Does it consume more fuel?
Thank you,

Any help?!
^^
Upp
Hate that sound myself, I've seen a lean condition do it back in the carburetor days.

Are you sure it is a lean not a ritch condition?
Rich usually just results in an elevated idle until you go so rich that the engine bogs from too much fuel. I have experienced said deceleration backfires with lean conditions also, running in the 16.5:1 to 18:1 range.
Another way of doing it is to retard the timing quite far during decel conditions.
Where would the overrun setting be to do this?
I believe to retard the timing for decel, it's simply editing the PT spark table for low MAP at whatever RPM desired -- Then data log with the scanner to verify. As I mentioned earlier, I hate that sound. It's the sound of bad tuning, and in an extreme case might do damage.
Ignition Advance. You want it to be in the neighborhood of 0 degrees or possibly even less.
Less ignition advance = more aggressive pops
Also disabling DFCO will make it happen more but will impact fuel economy quite a bit
I know that backfire can be done by retard the timing for low MAP, and this is not what I want!
What I want is the sound of exhaust popping (similar to the LS engines) when the gas pedal is released.
Something low and good to hear
Maybe you're looking for the exhaust sound on decel that some call a "burble". Coincidentally, my Jeep has had that sound ever since changing the muffler. So if that's what you're after, muffler design is a factor.
Here's the manufacturer's writeup: http://www.jkowners.com/forum/jk-new...ce-design.html
They even mentioned "The slight burble produced as you let of the gas is particularly noteworthy".
Just had a memory flashback of reading about the Jag F-type exhaust burble, and quickly found this SAE article about how it was engineered: http://articles.sae.org/12441/
set your part throttle spark + minimum spark to ZERO
in .20 and lower
Thank you all, but I don't think I explain what I want very well!!

Lean off the VE cells at the map sensor level were you want it to pop , typicall there will be a lot of advance there if you retard spark it will pop , check your dfco settings
cant imagine why you want it to pop tho hard on the cats and annoying.

I did this and I was really unimpressed with the result. I have a louder exhaust on my car and I barely noticed a difference in sound. If I noticed anything at all, the car got quieter because you can no longer hear the engine dragging on decel.
Is this a good idea/safe to do? I'm still a beginner to the tuning world and I don't wanna screw my car up by acting on something I read online that may not be good. Best to confirm first.
Anybody?
No side effects in GM gassers (catless) at least. Sounds sh.tty in trucks, real good in Vettes - exhausts are way different.
Never been asked to do this in Dodges, even though local Ram owners generally seem to hate cats and favour really loud mufflers.
Personally i'd think twice about ituning decel popping into cars or trucks with cats intact. But i might be wrong.
