No knock sensors on 2017 V10????? Help!

I recently bought a new motorhome, it's on an E450 Ford chassis. It has the 6.8L V10. As usual, Eric and the HPTuners team came through by adding in full support to that particular OS. I can now log and tune it, but it has a little problem... There's no knock sensors! WTH? What 2017 engine doesn't have knock sensors these days? Pretty weird but it truly doesn't have any as verified by the tune, the logs and physically looking for them.

Here's my question... Does anyone on here know if I can add one in successfully by finding out which pin on the ECM I need to wire it to and by specifying one sensor in the tune? The tune currently shows "0" as number of knock sensors. I'm a GM guy, I know pretty much nothing about Fords. ANY help any of you guys can throw me would be awesome and appreciated. I don't even care if the ECM doesn't actually "use" the sensor to retard timing, at the least I need to be able to log knock if I'm going to modify timing and fueling. My only other alternative is spending ~$500 on a Phormula KS-4 and using it on the 0-5v analog input to HPTuners.

    Thanks!

the knock sensor usually sit in the valley underneath the intake. there should be one or two connectors going under the intake manifold. if the scanner reads o then most likely you might not have them installed. To answer your question YES, you could wire them in to the PCM. Are you getting ping? ford shows this part number for 2017 Ford Part No.: AL3Z-12A699-BA

Awesome! That gives me hope that I can simply wire one in and enable it in the tune. And yeah, definitely NO knock sensors on this engine. I haven't driven it enough to know if it's going to knock, but it's tuned for 87 and with no knock control I'd say the stock tune isn't exactly optimized for max power. I'll be tuning it for premium and would prefer to at least be able to log knock.

Two more questions, do you know the ECM pin numbers for the knock sensor or have access to Ford wiring diagrams? Second, the sensor part number I came up with is different (4L3Z-12A699-AA) is the number you listed supposed to be for a '17 6.8L V10? Maybe the BA vs AA is simply if it has a lead or not?

    Thanks!

    I can tell you that a 2001 E450 V10 had knock sensors because I swapped a 2001 engine in a 2010. The 2010 engine had none.

Sorry old thread, just thought I would add.
2015 F53 V10 is indeed showing 2 knock sensors in HPtune

Are you sure there just isn?t any definition for them in the VCM editor because not very many people tune the ford v10. That or your knock sensors are on the side of the motor like an LS, but aren?t alterable

There is a definition for them in the editor.
Some engines show them, some do not.
In my case, a 2015 it shows 2 knock sensors. 2016 was a change AFAIK its possible post 2015 do not have knock sensors.
