Question how to set thermostat open early?

i was used trifecta tune calibrate.
it was great for coolant temp(always stay under 99'C , stock was 105~109'C)
i didn't see menu for control thermostat on vcm editor.
where can i control thermostat open time?

i tried desire fan%, it doesn't help much because thermostat is close.

    other question is desire fan.
    what is low axis mean?
    thanks.

thermostats are mechanical devices...you can control the fans to provide airflow as needed otherwise you install a lower temperature thermostat.
    what is your vehicle application?

i dont know what your talking about when you mention low axis. Desired coolant temperature is a target coolant temp that the ecu is looking for. actual temp is what the sensor tells the ecu the operating temperature is at. depending on the difference between desired and actual you can control more or less fan duty cycle. typically less fan control when the temps match and more when the actual is higher temperature than the desired temperature.

Some of the later systems have electric thermostats that are controlled by the ecu. Steve

thats why i asked for the vehicle information so i could go see if tech passed me up. thanks.

In VCM Editor up top go into SYSTEM (between "Fuel sys. and Speedo"), then go to FANS.

The somewhere in there you'll find a way to have the fans kick on at a earlier Engine Coolant Temp. They're probably set around 222f (105c). Set them to 93 to 95c or where ever you think is best.

I'm not familiar with the tuning for you car, but all the cars I've tuned with HPT have allowed me to do this through the System/fans. Some cars can have a dozen different tables under the FANS while some cars have only a few tables that control the fans.

The pic of the table you posted is not the right table. Find the table that allows you to change the temp at which the fans activate.

    thanks a lot guys.
    maybe i totally misunderstood hpt..
my car is cruze 1.6t AT. electric thermostat.
i tried desired% in fan menu. can be cooler than stock, but still over 104'c.
so i guess my car need control electric thermostat.
can not find nemu for that.

which ecm ecuipped on it? E78 or E83?
it is related with OS on ecm .
You must check engine diagnostic with GDS2 if ecm can control electric thermostat.
I know even equipped electical controlled thermostat on the engine , not control by ecm , only works as mechanical opens.

its e83 ecm. i tried connect fan controller to thermostat,
and set temp on 96'c to turn on.
thermostat open and coolant temp get down.
so i think electronic thermostat on my cruze.
few month ago i used trifecta tune's calibration. coolant temp alway under 99'c with out fan timing control.
so im sure thermostat control by ecm..

I tested fan controller parameters today and check the result by GDS2 , it is disappointed.
E83 module have a mistake I think I couldnt add the picture files to show the states.

im using aftermarket cooling fan controller to connect negative line of thermostat heat coil.
and set controller turn on at 90'c . success keep engine coolant cooler than stock around -7'c~-10'c. it works with out control desired fan%.thermostat start open at 90'c so highest engine coolant temp is 98'c.. set desired fan% and make -3'c than stock. and set desired fan% early means turn fan on earlier than stock could make fan noise and waste battery life i guess.

    Thanks for the update.

It does indeed such that you were not able to reliably control coolant temp with the radiator fans with HPTuners.

The aftermaket fan control module... does it have a thermocouple that fits between the radiator fins ? A fried had one like that many years ago and did the job nicely.

    yes. i agree with u .
hpt can't reliably adjust coolant temp as other car.
i have no time for drilling and welding on thermostat for extra temperature sensor.
so i cut the coolant line between thermostat and heater. if engine coolant sensor is 90'c then extra sensor is 88'c.
i hope HPT make a table for control thermostat open timing....
