My last tune was done using 2.24 and the file size was 474 KB.
I upgraded to 3.6 and grabbed the tune off my truck -- 175 KB.
Is this file size change to be expected?

Yes.
2016 Silverado CCSB 5.3/6L80e, not as slow but still heavy.
If you don't post your tune and logs when you have questions you aren't helping yourself.
better, more efficient file compression, its a good thing
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...
