    5.7 Hemi Cam swap

    Hello everyone!

I am planning on swapping a 6.4 HEMI cam into a 5.7 HEMI. First if anyone has any insight into this regarding the install to make it easier that would be appreciated, but my main concern is getting a base tune setup to start on and drive until I can fully tune and adjust for the cam. From what I understand it will "Technically" run and drive, but I cant believe that I can go into WOT to do a log without any changes. Also I'm already tuned and mostly maxed out with my current setup. I'm new to HPTUNER but do understand some basic info such as adjusting spark and fueling. I was hoping to get a 6.4 stock tune, or even a 5.7 hemi tune with a similar cam swap. I don't want to copy it but rather use it to make my own adjustments. I would like to make sure I understand the VVT timing aspect of this if applicable, and basically anything I need to know. I'm really hoping someone can help me, I'm very good with the mechanical work, but tuning is new to me! Thank you again to all in this forum who can offer any help/advice!

    Car info:
    2013 Challenger RT 5.7
    - Methanol injection (625cc)
    - SRT headers
    - Cat-back
    - CAI
    - 1 piece driveshaft
    - window stickers

Welcome to the site. I've done a similar modification to you, only I went with Comp 270. In retrospect, I may have faired better off going with a 6.4 cam power vs money spent wise. That being said, most of the folks on Mopar related forums who've done this, has said that the 6.4 cam doesn't really require tuning. It's a factory application that has all of the VVT stuff the computer reads already. I can't attest to this personally. What I can say to you is, that having HPT already will save you tons. Save the factory tune, put the new cam in, see if it starts and idles, then make adjustments from there. At a minimum I'd put better springs in the heads so you can take the engine up to 6500 without any worries. I spin my motor routinely to 7k. That said, I paid a professional tuner to get my car dialed in after I installed the cam, as I didn't have my HPT when I did the install. I've since modified the tunes I paid for to suite my needs. I'm not sure if any of this helps but I wish you well on your journey. I'm learning new things daily with this software.

Thanks DakBuilder, I'm still trying to get a stock 392 (6.4) tune. I got it running with little issue and it drives and runs. However being previously tuned I noticed power issues, it needed a lot of fuel during WOT pulls, and pulls fueling during idle and normal driving. Its odd but makes sense. I'm am gonna be making some changes as I can, but some help tuning would be awesome. I'm still new to HPTuners. Thanks!

    Cam swap update

So I got the cam in, and running. I used a stock 6.4 tune to make it run properly. so far WOT pulls are good and PT seems ok. I noticed ST and LT fuel trims are pulling a lot of fuel at idle or normal cruise conditions. wasn't sure why but could use some help figuring out why. Also, the PT table or fueling needs adjusted cause I get a lag or lack of power around 2700-3600 RPM's. I cant seem to find out why.

Also...im running methanol so WOT tuning is a bit interesting.

Sorry I?m late to the party, you need to adjust your fuel injector tables to fix this issue. If you need a video that explains how let me know I?ll share a link.

Old post …I know but can help.

After changing the cam in the RT AT to 392 non MDS I have to correct the fuel trims two times . At first I think its my fault, but after doing this double around 20% its nearly 5-10 %.

Hi iam tuning for a 392 CAM in AT 5.7Hemi. what do i start with? I have these questions i hope you can help:
1- What Parameters do i change first.
2- how much do i increase injector fuel roughly.
3- Do i need to change anything in idle? Because the car dies everytime i start it. Car also has intake and 6.1 manifold.
4- do you have a hpt file of your tuned 6.4 cam swap? At least i get an idea how to tune mine. So it points me in the right direction. Please ! Appreciate it

Look at the thread I have posted.
The last tune would be a good start for the cam - its a 6.4 MT cam.
