Samsung Reports Camera Use in the Background - Explanation & Solution

A few users have reported that Samsung's App Permission Monitor is claiming that TrackAddict has been using the camera at odd times when the phone wasn't even in use, sometimes when the app hasn't even been used in weeks.

This is a false-positive, Samsung-specific issue, that has fallen on us to work around. It will be addressed with the v4.0.3 update, which will hopefully be released tomorrow...

As you may know from using the app, the way we use video isn't supported when the app is put into the background, and the system will kill any attempt to record video once you leave the app (GPS and overall reliability usually takes a hit in the background too), so these reports are a bit puzzling. My best theory is that another app or a system process is querying TrackAddict in some way that is causing some of its core code to run... That could happen when something else is trying to determine what type of files the app able to open or serve, but it has been difficult to reproduce.

Upon any startup, we normally use the Camera API to detect which cameras are available and then determine which recording modes they're capable of, so that's what I believe is happening here. We have no code that would actually receive images or audio unless you are using the app, while on the its Preview or Record screens, or importing a track QR code.
