    First you need to determine if the parts numbers of the TCM's between the two model years are the same or a supersession (newer). A GM dealer parts department could tell you that from the parts manual. I would ask HP Tuners directly. Search under VIN swapping. It appears possible.

    2016 ATS-V uses T87 TCM. 2017 and 2018 ATS-V use T87A TCM. I believe HP Tuners will crack the T87A for you.

    Yes, you can, and you don't need to "crack" or "unlock" it because the 2016 T87 is not secured like the 2017+ T87A is. However, if you swap in a different TCM you will have to somehow code the solenoid characteristics for your particular transmission in it. Not sure how you would do that...
