    2018 locked or unlocked PCM?

    Good day everyone.
I've been reading up on this and some posts are old, some with no replys...

I've got a car here 1998 grand prix 3800 S/Ced V6, I'm unable to read the PCM. It reads to 43.3% then Fails everytime. This car has been tuned by someone else using HPTuners.
I've tried multiple different things, rebooting, letting it sit, battery disconnect, etc... Nothing works and same spot everytime 43.3% Failed!

If a PCM is locked will it still read or will it fail?
I've never came across a locked PCM before.

Please fill me in, thank you in advance.

sounds like a battery/wiring issue on this 20 year old vehicle...
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

I believe its not a wiring issue Bill.
I have had a chance to pull it out of the vehicle and use my bench flash setup on it.

I use this Bench flash setup all the time for swaps, and still the same outcome.
I just love when people tuner lock.

Theres only one reason to tuner lock...its to hide your shady work!

reading to 43% would indicate the ecm is not tunerlocked.

I had the same issue on a 2004 Silverado. I hooked up my battery charger to the truck and unplugged the pcm for about 20 mins. Plugged it back in and flashed. Had to do it everytime I flashed that specific pcm. It must have been a bad pcm. Keep in mind this truck had many electrical issues and once we ironed those out that is the process I had to go through to flash the pcm.

It?s easier to pick up a used or refurbished pcm.
