2018 Camaro ZL1 Axle Torque Limiting

2018 Camaro ZL1 has 650 foot-pounds of engine torque stock. If we multiply that number by the first gear transmission ratio of 2.29:1 and the final drive ratio of 3.73:1, we get 5,552 foot-pounds of axle torque.

Table 12820 Max Engine Torque by Gear has a hard limit of 6,042 foot-pounds. I realize it's labeled as engine torque, rather than axle torque. I also noticed that Table 12836 Default Trans Limit also has a limit of 6,042 foot-pounds.

Not sure which one of these is the culprit, but I am experiencing issues with the throttle closing any time axle torque exceeds 6,042 foot-pounds, which happens in first gear during a launch. So for you guys who are adding power to these cars, what are you doing to keep the electronic throttle fully open in first gear?

    Thanks in advance!

auto or manual? if auto, there's a limit in there as well and would need license tcm to fix.
if manual, sorry, no smart answer. been working with a10 car....

It's a manual, but thank you for your reply nonetheless.

I'm struggling to find a way to keep it from closing the electronic throttle and pulling ignition timing in first gear. ETC source is 'torque'. Other gears are fine, so it seems to be related to axle torque or gear selection in some way.

Ignition timing advance goes to zero at launch and returns slowly, until it's back to normal around 39 mph. Throttle closes every launch at 11 or 12 mph, and reopens at 13 or 14 mph. This is consistent, regardless of launch mode or engine speed.

have you tried the amount of slip allowed in the dash settings? maybe this overrides the ecu as an active input.
at the track on the a10 this was huge change in how the car launched.
it should be there in MT car as well.

This sounds like the notorious ZL1 bog that almost every ZL1 owner has complained about during hard launches or at the drag strip.

Is there a known workaround for this?

Not that I know of, most owners on the Camaro6 forum are still complaining about the issue.
