Installing LE5 engine in place of 2008 L61

Like the title says, I want to install an LE5 out of a 2007 Cobalt into a 2008 HHR with the gen2 L61.

I've downloaded the tunes from both ecm's, so my plan is to hook up the 2007 LE5 with loom & accessories that it came with, and basically use hptuners to update the 08 L61 ECM with the data from the 07 LE5 ECM. I'm wondering though if it would be easier to install the ecm out of the cobalt in the HHR & just update the VIN, or are there restrictions on using a vin from a different model year?

Are the reluctor rings the same between the two engines, or will that definitely need to be switched between engines?

Is there anything else i'm missing?

you could run into vin/hardware miss-match errors. that would be a question for hpt tech.

    here are the rules:
    Change VIN Rules
The following checks are in place when using the Change VIN function:

    • You must have support for the vehicle you are modifying.
    • You must have support for the new VIN you are trying to write.
    • The new VIN must be valid and must qualify for the OS currently found on the VCM.
