    05 GTO E40/T42 4L60E to 4L80E questions

Im about to do my 4l80e swap in my 2005 GTO and got to reading about this more on the gto forums but dont really understand where it was left off.

Do I still need relays and all that jazz, a segment swap, or do I just re-pin / break out VSS and change values in the shift pattern and trans section to match a 80e in HPT?

If you are using the stock 60 shifter, you will need to bend the shift rod a little to clear the VSS plug on the 80. You will see after you install it. No biggie.

    so you used this?
    http://www.pcmofnc.com/product/pcm-o...rness/#reviews

That's kinda what im asking.. I see in the T42 you can change the shift solenoid pattern (it even tells you what the 4l80e values are with a hover over the button).
Your values are still 4l60e for the pattern im assuming because the relays are doing that work for you.

Do we still need the relays or is it pin swap / vss breakout and change the solenoid output pattern / tables to match the 80?

I should have made my screen name the same too MP_GTO

My harness doesn't look like that. It has two weatherproof relays in the harness. The pin method was not available when I changed mine or a few people tried and could not get everything to work so the easiest and most painless way was to use the relays. Never had a problem---knock on wood. PCMofNC can probably tell you the part you need or furnish the pin swap info if you call them. I don't know what VSS breakout means. I just plugged the 60 harness into the VSS plug on the 80. Make sure your 80 has the VSS wheel installed.

do you still have the part number for the harness you used?
did you have to disable any codes or was it plug and play?

I don't see a receipt for the harness. You will have to call. They have sold a bunch of them.
I did not have to disable any codes. Everything works as it should.

They got back with me and said that link above is the correct adapter with the relays and such in it.
Maybe they are using micro relays now. Ill post a picture when it arrives for future swappers.

cant wait to have 3rd gear back, and new gear ratios with a stall!

You should be able to simply use a actual 80E harness for the T42 and flash the T42 for an 80E OS. I personally do not care for the relay method.

If you know how I would be willing to listen.
From what I have researched - with e40/t42 no one has got it to work correctly.

I'll have to dig the file up and it may or may not work but I have a working T42 80E file that we used in an 06 TBSS which still uses the E40 ECM.

Have you used that tune? Nothing done other than the tune and pin swaps?

    This showed up today.

Everything in tight in the harness.

You will not need to do anything other than removing a few codes and tuning shift points with that harness. That harness is a great way to do these swaps and retain all factory control of cruise control, shift lights in the dash, etc. Travis Wester pulled his TCI box out to go back to the factory T42 to control his 4l80 in his GTO. I'm pretty sure he is still the fastest IRS GTO.

Nice. Mine is a lot different. My relays are a lot bigger and not sealed up like that one. I guess that is progress. Still works good though.

I finished the swap last week. The adapter seems to work fine.
The adapter did have some open holes where blank pins or plugs should have been that caused a leak. Nothing a little silicone didn't fix.
