    E67 Differences? 2009 vs 2010-2012?

Dealer reporting different E67 part number used for 2009 Colorado V8 vs 2010-2012 model. ECM service part numbers 12636659 vs 12678513, respectively. Does anybody know what the difference is? I know for the 6L80E trans (in the Escalade), this was a big controller change year, so I don't know if it was a communication protocol, or the difference of VVT addition? I "thought" most all E67's were the same, but maybe not? Hardware or firmware difference?

I'm looking to get a spare E67 before I start tuning, but in the long run would like to eventually upgrade to a 6.2L, and wanting to actuate the stock 6.2L VVT mechanism.

Also, is there a lower cost path to acquire a used one and simply reflash it? I do have access to dealership level MDI and TIS web subscription to do so. OK to obtain used one, but need to keep same model year? Same engine?

Thanks, sorry for low level questions.

The 2010+ E67 ECMs (SERV. NO. 12633264) are mutually interchangeable - that means they may be programmed with any 2010 through 2015 E67 calibration. These may have various GM part numbers, but the service number of each will be the same (12633264).

The 2006 to 2009 E67 ECMs have a variety of Service Numbers (and GM part numbers).

A 2009 Colorado could be equipped with an LH8 5.3L engine - these were not VVT engines.

In 2010, the LH9 5.3L became the optional V8 engine in the Colorado - these were VVT engines.

I have never had any luck fully activating all the VVT algorithms in a non-VVT calibration.

You could try programming an E67 ECM with a 2010 LH9 calibration, then changing the VIN to match your 2009 Colorado, followed by confirming communications with all others modules in the vehicle.

The 2010 to 2012 Colorado used a different APP (accelerator pedal), than did the 2007 to 2009 Colorado. These are electronically similar, but NOT the same - you may also need to change the APP - if a 2010 ECM calibration will communicate with the rest modules in your 2009 Colorado.

Personally, I would ditch the VVT system, install a standard camshaft and timing gears in the 6.2L truck engine, and run the 2009 LH8 Colorado ECM calibration - just my two cents.
