    Unlicensed Vehicle

    So.
This is the 3rd time Ive flashed a new vehicle. And the first time Ive used the tune repository.
I edited a tune for my ls2 corvette, CAGS disable etc. Got ready to flash, clicked apply 2 credits. Went to flash. And it says UNLICENCED VEHICLE?!?!?
Now I have no credits left, and I can?t flash my car...

    What the heck is happening?

Don't license repository files and then assume you can flash them without having to license the vehicle you are attempting to flash to.
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

    Hi Bill,
I was plugged into my car when I clicked apply...
Youre saying my credits applied to someone else?s tune?!

You even said it yourself that you used a tune from the repository.

Simply plugging into a vehicle does absolutely nothing.

Can you shoot me a PM? I?d like to have you guys deal with this!
You should not be able to apply credits to a vin if you are not plugged in to that ECM...

The software only knows what you tell it. Many customers use the repository files when they don't have a stock file so most people that use the repository are for a valid reason.

    They can't fix user error.

If you don't post your tune and logs when you have questions you aren't helping yourself.

I have to agree, I got burned one time from my own stupidity when I was new at this. My reasoning on it: I was stupid, but I would have thought it super good customer care if they gave you a break on relicensing when you do something stupid like this, maybe as a one time deal or so. Who does it really effect? HPT doesn't get effected at all, you the tuner do get effected and it is not like you will ever tune the repository file's car, so no car is benefiting.

But then again, you should be willing to pay for any stupid mistake you make, that's just a part of life.

I personally think they should just make an update so that you can only apply credits to a car that you’re hooked up to.

That sounds okay to some but then someone could never change operating systems on their existing vehicle if they ever needed to.

Sometimes it's just not possible to find a factory computer with the correct calibration already loaded on it from a junkyard or ebay/forums. So allowing them to license another file and writing it to their computer is always an option. That option always costs them extra money or sometimes it could cost them a computer and credits if something went wrong but it's still an option that should be there for some.

Interesting you say that because with the MPVI2 it will only license upon flash...

You can modify/save any file without using credits.

Whats your support ticket number? Sounds like something I would've contacted support about...

We responded back on Dec 3rd requesting information, you never responded with any information so the ticket has been closed.

The licence note might be clear a day to you but it's not clear as day to me. I'm pretty close to average in the smarts department.
I just purchased MPVI2 pro and the note says you can flash and read. Well, I cannot read any ECM with my new MPVI2. I can scan. I can attempt to flash, (but get the unlicensed note).

Take a look at this please. The note needs to be modified to say. STOP!!!! do not licence this unless you READ the ECM 1st!.

    Thanks.

ok, I just got a bit of a unsat reply from support just now. Said that my ECM is for an Escilade and I am attempting to flash for a Camaro. No help what-so-ever.
If I cannot read the ECM then how the hell can I licence the ECM? This new MPVI2 is not at all free of bugs.
