    Dyno today 12/15/18 - 2012 Mercedes C63 P31 - 450.42whp and 401.29 ft-lbs SAE Corr

    Hey guys,

Hit the dyno today and was able to get 450.42whp and 401.29 ft-lbs SAE Corrected on a Dynojet 224x dyno!! Uncorrected values were 449whp and 400 ft-lbs. Weather was in the mid 60's here in central FL. Run 3 was my baseline on Jan'16 with AFE Power air filters and ROW airboxes and Run 17 was my HP Tuners street tune where I ran 11.844 @ 119.4mph (Michelin PS4's) and the mods below.

    Car:
    2012 Mercedes C63 P31 coupe with LSD

    Mods are the following:
    AFE Power Dry air filters
    ROW airboxes
    MBH Motorsports headers
Quaalude's midpipes with Magnaflow 59959 cats and Vibrant 17695 race mufflers
    MBH X-pipe
    stock resonator
    stock exhaust
Quaalude's custom HP Tuners V1 tune

I'm finally able to say "money well spent" on the above mods because I gained 62.74whp and 51.94 ft-lbs over stock and bet my best stock time of 11.96 @ 117mph (Goodyear street tires) with my HP Tuners street tune. With MBH headers and EC tune, I was never able to get into the 11's (12.06 @ 116mph best). I gained 25whp and 21 ft-lbs from adjusting A/F's, adding in timing, and VVT adjustment. I should be in the mid to low 11's with 122-123mph traps.

Thanks BackyardTurbo for some of your tips and previous posts and HP Tuners for an awesome product!

There's def still room to improve there.

Also, did you see your one AFR (WB5) goes crazy lean at the top of the pull?? When it does you can see the knock sensor step in there too!

You can also bring more timing in from 3-4k

You still need to get your throttle opening 100% mid range, that gains quite a bit of torque. Also timing as Backyard said, you should be able to pull off another 0.2 getting those done! Goodluck, love how versatile HPTs is with these motors.

Yeah, I'm not sure what caused WB5 to go lean during that run. Attached is the run right before this one with no lean spike.

I double checked my spark tables and I lowered everything below 4k rpm to -2 degrees to be conservative with street tune and forgot to increase the timing to stock levels. I have since copied stock timing below 4k rpm into spark tables and done partial throttle knock tuning to decrease knock events.

Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out getting 100% commanded throttle in the mid range. Thanks man, yeah I'm loving the new found power and the linear throttle response. As you said, HPT you can really dial in these motors. The pull at the top of 2nd gear transitioning into 3rd is tremendous now lol.

I have gotten super busy with a new addition in the family and hasn't got much time to go back to dyno. After a few notes from Backyardturbo, I was able to advance further with better results but I still need to focus on timing a bit more when I have dedicated time towards playing with car. Timing is critical on my end as I am injecting 200-shot of Nitrous so I have to be a bit careful. Current progress, I meant where I last left it: I dialed the car in without injecting then introduced 75-shot then 100-shot. 125-shot was my last attempt; around 600 whp. Once I got to 150-shot, that's when it started knocking then I went home and baby was born shortly after that. lol

I went back to the track again on 1/17 and 1/31 when the weather was cool here in FL. My car is running consistent 11.8's on Michelin PS4 at stock tire pressure, full weight, and 93 octane. These runs were done with about 1/2 tank of gas. Runs on 1/17 I ran 1 degree less timing than my dyno tune and dyno tune timing on 1/31 runs. Second run on 1/31, the ecu was pulling timing as I was getting some knock, hence the slower time and lower mph. I finally went over the 120mph mark with my best time ever of 11.806 @ 120.43mph. I think she can go a little bit faster with more practice and race gas but without spending a lot more $$$ on next set of mods (i.e. TB's, nitrous, supercharger, drag radials), she is pretty much tapped out on current setup.

Thanks BackyardTurbo!! Yeah, we have a bunch of Racetrack and Thornton gas stations here but I'm not sure if I want to make the switch to corn juice as the gas mileage is what is holding me back. Have you tried E85 yet?

I get 15 mpg on the highway with e60... True e85 and i just put a picture in front of the gas gauge.......

For me and why i love running corn all the time is the huge amount of timing I have down low. It makes the car a complete animal. The switch to e85 has kept me from buying headers because of the gains.

Mind posting a screenshot of one of your timing tables harmless? Also, are you running an ethanol kit or added the ethanol sensor and tuning it? 15mpg highway with e60 is a little low for my liking, I can’t imagine e85 lol.

Yeah, e85 adds about 20-30 whp from what I read, which is about what headers add. I was able to find a complete used set of MBH headers for a good price so I got lucky.

No kits. Stock fuel system maxed out. I fear aftermarket filters/primary decat will push me past what the stock fuel system can do.

This is my most recent timing table. E85 with a few gallons of race fuel to bring the duty cycle down. BackyardTurbo has been a huge help to me.

Did you try more timing? I am running 31.5 advance at high load/RPM points and I do not see any knock retard. I understand there is a diminishing return on advancing the spark but I am curious if you got an opportunity to try further advancing?

BTW I am new to the HP Tuner game. Trying to learn for you guys

I started getting knock(not reported in the scanner!!!) around 33. I back it off till I heard it was gone. It has to be very very close to the wall of starting to loose power. Will take 31 degrees all day long with no tip in retard. My biggest gains was below 5k. Have still yet to get the car on the dyno. Hoping for 450 whp on e85 on stock exhaust manifolds.

Thanks harmless for posting your spark table. I incorporated the negative timing in the low load column similar to your settings and the MCT transmissions seams to shift a lot smoother. What is your injector duty cycle at redline on stock system with the corn juice? With ethanol, looks like you're running 3-5 degrees more timing compared to 93 pump gas. Attached is a screen shot of my spark table.

I'm running about 30-32 degrees (30 at max load/rpm) advance on the spark tables (actual being 24 degrees) with 93 pump gas and the ecm detected knock on the 11.806 run with rock solid .85-.86 lambda (12.50 a/f) curve. Attached is the datalog for that run. I have since richened up the a/f mixture to .83 lambda to help reduce the knock occurrence but haven't got a chance to run the car.
