In case anyone knows, I wanted to ask if my initial impression about this topic is correct? I'm gathering that the MAF is used for simply calculating cylinder airmass vs. fuel quantity for a smoke limiting function. What say you?

its used for density calculation which can be used for calculating torque output and there is also a function for maf in the EOT section. since factory sets EOT up as a function of BARO then its not used.
calculating density from map and iat is cool but requires math. since the maf does that all in one shot the ecu gets an almost instantaneous value for air density. it comes in handy but in most cases is used for sanity and tqm related functions.

Thanks, I appreciate that! I'm not immediately understanding what EOT actually means, so I have some researching to do.
