2010 Camaro SS 6L80 to CTSV 6L90 swap questions

The 6L80 started slipping WOT in the upper gears....

    Car is making 760rwhp now....

So I just picked up a 42k mile CTSV 6L90 I'm going to send off for a 800hp rebuild.

How do I flash the TCM to work in my car?

I've heard I need a vin # to go with it, so...

Anyone have a stock ZL1 6L90 tune with VIN# they'd like to share to get me moving so I can drive it to my tuner?

How could you put a different VIN/operating system into the TCM than what is in your car and expect that to work? The PCM/TCM should use a matching files so they communicate with each other.

Why not just put your TCM into the 6L90e, that would be free because nothing is changed.

2016 Silverado CCSB 5.3/6L80e, not as slow but still heavy.

If you don't post your tune and logs when you have questions you aren't helping yourself.

    Have no clue.

That's why I'm asking all this.

    Just Google the swap.

Camaro 5 has one thread where someone flashed the TCM with ZL1 vin #.

Can I flash my 6L80 tune to the 6L90?

    See, read this thread: https://ls1tech.com/forums/gen-5-cam...p-into-ss.html

But if I can flash the TCM with my current tune, that would be great!

I did this on a 2010 Camaro. The trans was already from a ZL1 so we left it be. If you want the ZL1 tune file then I would suggest using a known stock ZL1 TCM file of the same year as your ECM and do a write entire to the TCM. You need to make sure the TCM in the trans supports the OS/Tune that you are about to flash into it as well.

This trans is a 2012 6L90 out of a CTSV.

How do I know if my 6L80 tune will work in the 6L90 TCM?

Just use the tune that's in it and adjust for your shift patterns. The CAN comms should still be the same. You may need to adjust some of the Tapup/down features but that OS should actually work as is.

If you do want to write your old tune into the TCM then look at the OSID of the TCM and see if it matches your original. If it does then you can do a "write calibration" to the TCM which will overwrite only the calibration portion of the TCM tune.

What I ended up doing is, per Tim King at TK Performance, I bolted in my 6L80e TCM in to the 6L90e CTSV trans.

I kept my tune from DBR in there untouched.

It works.... but I think the TCM might be bad.

I had an issue crop up before the blower, tune and trans swap.

The 6L80e trans would randomly, nose over on a 2-3 shift, jerk / slam in to gear.

One day riding around town, the car clunked in to gear coming to a stop at a redlight and then threw MIL's and stuck in gear.

Luckily had my code scanner in the trunk, cleared the codes, and went on my way.

The MIL's and stuck in gear issue never came back, but ever since I was plagued with that shift issue on the 6L90e as well.

Also, when I went to the 6L90e, I also swapped in a Circle D Billet Pro Series 3200-3400.

Not sure if it's related to the new converter (old was a standard single disc 3200-3400 by Circle D) or the shift issue, but sometimes on a deceleration, it'll clunk and feel like it snatches possibly on the gear disengagement or converter unblock? Whichever it is...

Am I right in assuming it might need a new TCM and possibly a tune for the new converter?

    Same troubles with transmission

Hey John c so I?m just curios if you ever solve the shifting problems with your trans. I have the same swap you do and Tim king built mine. My trans shifts funny in the same spot and hits hard 2-3 doesnt seem right. Hoping you might have the answer. Thanks

    Yes...

    The TEHCM was issue.

Also found my TC solenoid was stuck locked.

Replace it before it breaks your trans.

    I broke 4th 5th and 6th gears on a WOT downshift.

Dude thanks I really appreciate so tell me once you got it working right how do you feel about the swap was it worth it?
Also I was gonna go lsa blower so I bought circle d 258 triple disk and boost cam. I’ve decided I just don’t think it’s worth it or is it would love to know your option so I’m thinking of staying n/a gonna selling tq and go 245 single disk 3600 or 3800 if I get around or just over 500whp I’m curious if I will see more gains then others with 6l80 due to less drivetrain loss.

    Boost is totally worth it!

    I made 760rwhp with a ProCharger D1X..

Going to change pulley and shoot for 800rwhp+ soon as Tim King has my Stage 4 max effort 6L90 in the car.

ProCharger says going from 3.9" to 3.7" @ 6,800 should get me there easy.
