Bought a trailblazer SS has a bad engine and trans tune in it. Help please?

So long story short. I bought a really nice condition and really well taken care of trailblazer ss that was about 4 hours away in another state. The previous owner was not mechanically inclined but put his faith and money into a shop. They installed a custom grind cam "with specs similar to a stage 2 NA BTR cam", pac springs, titanium retainers, long tube headers cat delete, and "tuned" it. I do not claim to be a tuner but I have built many cars and had quite a bit of experience with holley Efi. I can tell this tune is shit. I forgot to add that this guy paid for a "cow booster" which changes the drive by wire throttle response to be less variable and more touchy. (basically a way to trick people who are less in the know into thinking their car is faster because when you lightly press the throttle the truck jumps forward.) I talked to the tuner on the phone for about 30 min before I got to check out truck. He said it was a great truck, he just freshened up the tune, etc etc. he really seemed to know these trucks and I was very thankful he spent the time with me. That being said, If he thinks this is a good tune, im hesitant to do business with him.

    Some of my symptoms are:

Horrible cold start, requires throttle input to keep running at first.
Overly choppy idle, almost like it doesnt have enough timing in it.
And the trans, hes got the line pressures very aggressive. Combine that with the "cow booster" and you have a truck that is miserable to drive in town.

    So my questions are these:

    1. He tuned it with EFI live, is that a problem for me because I bought HP Tuners?
    2. The tuner claims that his "cow booster" product is not just a tuning adjustment, that he developed software to do it.
    3. Does anyone have a cam only, stock or near stock map for an 07 trailblazer ss that I could have to start with as a jump off point?

    Thank you very much.

Honestly, the best approach is to have the ECM flashed back to stock with Tis2web. Start with a completely stock GM file for that VIN and then return. There's a lot of info around here that will get you going in the right direction after that.

I was thinking I would like to start fresh i just didint know where to get a stock file. Is there anything complicated about getting it from that site Tis2Web? I havent done that before.

Also: I have a log i pulled today cold start with 10 minutes of city driving. If anyone wants to look at it.

Have you asked the tuner if he saved the stock file to his laptop?? Might not want to burn the bridge with the tuner. It could very well be a mechanical issue...

    tis2web is gm programming
    requires a j2534 flash tool

or send it to dealer to program

you could also pull a stock file from the repository, and copy over differences to essentilly return it back to stock

also bear in mind that some of things you say make it miserable, may have been what the customer wanted. Often times in tuning i put things in vehicles I would never want to have in my own. Why? because its what the customer wanted. No matter how bad it may seem to you, it may be perfect to the previous owner. The overly choppy idle is very common with the truck guys, as they usually buy a stage 1 or 2 cam from (insert cam company) and realize its not very aggressive. They watch some youtube videos and tell their tuner that this guys, or that guys cam chops hard. So it leaves the tuner with the only option available, and thats to get aggressive with the timing over/under spark. To me it sounds bad, its very unnatural, however, if the customer wants it, I deliver. Now the cold start thing, thats easily fixed. The shift pressures are likely what the customer wanted as well. Cant tell you how many times a customer requests to make it shift like it has a kit in it. Whatever, its your vehicle.

I did just that, I segment swapped the trans and throttle settings from a stock one from the repository. I made another post with some of my results.
