Here?s a short clip of the sound, rolling at 45ish mph, from in the cab of a VP tune I did on a 2012. 20.5-21mpg on the highway, starts, runs and sounds great.

Awesome Jim! How does the VP tune differ from the CR? Is the pilot injection removed above a certain RPM?

Pilot only exists during cranking, reworked rail pressure table and main timing table
That sounds great! I miss the sound of the old vp trucks.... nice work, and thank you. I was just reading an older post of yours about making a vp tune.

I love it, good mileage out of it too, still running 20-21mpg.
Is this what people refer to as a "12v tune"
Some erroneously call it the 12 valve tune.
Willing to share some details? Main timing during cruise and high torque demands. Rail pressure ranges.
My minimum rail pressure is 690bar and minimum timing is 8*BTDC, blends into what I use on my tune that has pilot
Got a picture of my timing table here.

I do it similar on the 5.9 but the 5.9 requires more deeper tuning to get a good startup.
So I decided to try out a single event tune also. Pretty weird hearing the classic diesel rattle from my truck. I copied over the stock Correction timing table to the main timing tables, and then adjusted the correction table to the higher injection timing needed for a single injection event. This way, when the engine is cold, I have pilot injection and small main injection timing. As the engine warms, the pilot goes away, and the main timing increases. Sounds odd when the transition occurs.

I didn?t do anything like that. I?m also running no pilot period. I?ve started it below 32*f like that no issues
Traveled from Snowflake, AZ over to Las Vegas, NV up to Cedar City, UT. 557.6 miles, 27.299gal for 20.43mpg maintaining about 76-77mph majority of the way. NVIC was showing 98 miles till empty when I stopped in Cedar City for fuel.
After day of data logging and fine tuning the VGT position tables and charge air flow tables I've got my VP tune down to almost zero delay to throttle response. It almost instantaneously starts pulling hard and rpms climb fast.
That's impressive mileage, especially at that speed. Pretty cool, nice work. Someday I gotta try this on my 3rd gen.

Pretty average mileage I?ve been getting, so long as I?m not driving in high winds. Did a VP tune for a guys 06 megacab he?s reported a bit better than what I get on my 6.7L
