just installed software to a newer laptop, updated the latest beta scanner seems fine opens up normal, the VCM editor is opening with the notepad program built into the laptop, how do i get out of that?

Try right clicking your tune file icon and where it says "Opens With" select Change, then select VCM Editor.
Hopefully that will fix it.
