    2015 E78 to 2014 E38

    Hi,

    I have a 2015 L96 6.0 with 6l90 transmission out of a 3500 Silverado. It uses an E78 ECM.

I bought an L96 E38 harness with T43 TCM connector from an Express Van.

The question: would a 2014 E38 from an Express Van running a 4.8 6l90 work? I?m assuming I would need to segment swap it? Or VIN OS swap it to a 2015.

I have someone that will VIN OS flash an E38 for me. Would a 2014 E38 (hardware) work to flash to a 2015 E38 OS, both Express Van?

My biggest concern is the TCM. I?d rather not flash it and risk bricking it with an OS change. Instead, I?d rather get a 2015 E38 OS to match the transmission.

...the 2015 Express Van L96 also isn?t listed on HPTuners compatibility list.

e38 is a gen 4 LS computer (unless they used them on gen 5 too?)... I believe the 2015 would be a gen 5 LT motor? if so, these are pretty much not compatible...

The E38 would work fine controlling the L96. It's just a GEN 4 engine.

Yes, mechanically the engines are the same and can be operated by either an E78 or E38. If this is a swap application, E38 is a bit easier to tune. If a factory application, likely opening a can of worms in regards to EBCM/BCM and other module communications.

As with all Gen IV+ controllers, need to match the ECM + pedal + TCM to make sure everything works together.

I'll expand on my problem. I have a 2011 2500hd with the 6.0 6L90 and the dredded e78 ECM. Truck is going turbo however the limited tuning of the e78 is tough and even adding electric fans is a headache. I want to repin to a e38 to make things a little easier and keep everything working. Hoping to convert to the E38 like the other 6.0 6l90 options gm had from 2011 up. Thanks for the help.

L96 could've been built with either E38 or E78, depending on platform. What exactly is there to figure out? Copy the parts used in the factory-built E38 versions. As stated, if it's not a swap you may have to reprogram the cluster/EBCM/whatever else with SPS and the VIN chosen for the new ECM, I really would not want to mess with it in that situation - and I have the stuff to program all the non-powertrain modules here at home. If you don't have all that stuff you definitely do not want to tackle it. If it's a swap with none of the BS modules and the VIN doesn't matter it's dead simple.
