    268 cam will not chop

I have a 2004 Ram 5.7 Hemi. I have installed a Comp cam 268 and have it running great. I?m trying to get the cam to chop but no matter what I do with proportional it will only slightly chop. I have The Tuning school book and on pg 149 it explains how to do it but it will not work. I have adjusted all spark tables and anything I can find that might help from mild to wild with no success. The best I can get out of it shows timing jumping from 25 down to 5. Anyone had any luck doing this?

ignition and also fueling will help.

you can OL it and have a lean idle tuning off wideband and that will chop for sure.

Ok. Now I?m new to tuning so I don?t know much except what I?ve gathered on this one. How much lean you think? 16? Can you have it only OL only while in idle mode? I?m not looking to only sound good. It?s a daily driver.

Wide band stays around 15 always since doing some part throttle remapping

But -10 is pulling fuel so it?s running rich if anything? That?s my understanding.

Got fuel trims at +/- 2. Still no cam chop. It idles like a factory cam

For some reason I can not get timing to drop below 5. I can get it to bounce from 5-30.

Short answer, turn off closed loop, drop the idle to 700-750, and keep fuelling at 14-15. Long answer, i'll make a post and video later.

Did you happen to bump up timing in your Minimum Spark Base tables? If you are following the Tuning Guide, then you probably set first few columns to 5. Increasing timing will smoothen out idle. Set back to stock and only increase those columns if you need to stabilize or smoothen idle.

I did follow the 10 degrees but engine would not idle correctly. Idle would hunt from 500 to 1500 rpm and it wasn?t from a cam chop. It was undesirable. I lowered timing to 5 and idle was stable with no hunting. Cam still won?t even attempt to chop. I?m not going to do stupid stuff like run in open loop and idle engine lean just for a sound. If a 268 cam with separation of 113 won?t chop with out doing that then it?s just not going to do it.

Try setting to zero and see how it idles.

I typically try not to mess with Idle Torque Spark Tables unless I have too. I'll bring base spark up in the first columns up enough just to stabilize idle.

The Comp 268 cam with a 113 LSA has a -8* overlap @ .050 and will idle very smooth.
