    Lean during open loop warm up?

    A buddy of mine has a 90 Mustang LX with a 331ci engine (built by a local builder), Victor Jr. intake converted to EFI, NOVI 2000 blower, a PMS series 2, and a MAF that was modified by Performance Mass Air Flow Systems out of Michigan.

    Notes:9.25:1 compression, 3.73 gears,C-4 transmission, Bought PMS new in 2002. Also have low impedence driver. I had my mass air recalibrated for the 72# .

    His initial tune was set up by a well known Ford tuner, but there was too much timing and fuel in it for the car to run right at lower RPM's. My buddy pulled some timing and I believe some fuel, and after dabbling with it for a while he's got things so that everything seems to be great in closed loop.

    His problem is that in open loop while the car is warming up, it runs extremely lean. He told me its up around 18:1 or 19:1 while the car is warming up, according to the LM1.

    Suggestions I came up with:
    *Possible exhaust leak near an O2 caused the rich initial tune.
    *His tuning was done while in closed loop, so O2's compensated for correct fueling. Tuning in open loop should eliminate this possibility.

    Any other idea's? I haven't messed with Ford stuff too much at this point, so I'm only quasi-helpful for him at this point. I know we've got some Ford guru's that post on here, who I'm hoping can lend a hand.

    Turn on the wideband to get it up to temp for about 2 min. before starting the car. Air pump still on/working?

    No AIR pump on the car, but good suggestion.
