    06 LBZ Duramax

Just want to add a thread for those guys waiting like myself. The truck I promised to tune was actually an 06 LBZ, the owner had it since 05, hence my cornfuzion. Well we added the Banks intake and giagundo exhaust, just waiting to finish it up with a tune. I would be willing to be a beta tester for it and will have finished tuning my 99 SS and looking for the next challenge, good luck finishing it up, can't wait!

It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

I also have an '06 LBZ. It will be one of the first vehicles I tune. My question is, since it has a Bully Dog Power Pup now, will I be able to tune over it? Thanks.

if thats an inline module it will probably need to be removed.

It's not a module. It's a tune that you upload through the OBDII port. No hardware. I do however have a small unit inline with the EGR/MAF harness. It modifies the signal to prevent a Check Engine light due to the EGR blockoff plate. How would this affect my HPTuner operation?

as long as bully dog doesnt lock the tune you should be able to read/edit it just fine. The egr thing shouldnt affect anything.

I've been able to read after using Hypertech and Quadzilla programmers on various years.

If you disable the EGR in HPT, is it effectively the same as an EGR blocker plate?

You will still need a blocker plate. The EGR stepper motor is not strong enough to keep it closed.

If you have loaded an ECM tuner on your truck, REMOVE IT (return to stock) before using a custom tuning system. If not, you can ruin your Bully Dog (Predator, SuperChips, HyperTech) and you will not be able to use it again correctly.

Hello McRat. This is 4rotorcorvette from the Diesel place. I guess it's similar to using the Tech2 on the Bully Dog equipped trucks, it ruins the tune also.
I wonder if they did it to prevent people from stealing the tune. I just want to see the before and after parameters of a properly tuned Duramax.

Actually you should be able to do a complete read with out disturbing any thing in the Tune. I have been able to look at some of the older hand held tunes. some one who is willing to sacrifice there newer box might be able to try also.

What you may find is that HPT is un-willing to read the TCM after a bully Dog has been installed. I found that some times I would have to use the Pup to return it to stock then upload the tune I wanted to look at again. This may or may not help. In the end I just unplugged the TCM to get the read.

What you DO need to remember is NOT to up load any changes before plugging in and returning the truck to stock with the hand held.

Now on the new stuff where they are tuning on the fly I am un-sure if you will find any thing. I am not sure but am guessing they write the fuel tables in an un used area of the code and then just add a redirect line in the look up tables. Again I am un-sure and I do not hack the code ,HPT does

This would be in line with the 'locking' some mentioned.

To be clear I would not use a tune like this as a direct upload. I use them for educational puposes. I am looking for some others to see what different things each set does to get the results. From what little of the code we actually have access to there is not much to see.

I must say once you start looking at them you see there really is not alot different from one to the other at times

    Good luck and be Careful!

Hey McRat. I bet you had no idea I had this much fun

Yup, Chris mentioned they are aiming for a March release at this point for LBZ as long as everything goes smoothly.

Will it have the RTT switchable OS when it is released?

So the latest release 2.1.16 doesn't have the LBZ support yet? I saw the email and got my hopes up!

I talked the guy who has the 06 Duramax out of buying any Banks piggy back but he is about done waiting, any news on the beta? Is 2.1.17 going to be the beta of Duramax without RTT? Man if it is I gotta start begging now so I can keep this guy from going Banks!
