Does your 46RE have a cabled TTVA or servo driven TTVA? The 48RE was cabled off the accelerator pedal until 2005. If it?s cabled you mainly have what you need there to change firmness, just play with the governor pressure table and tension of the TTVA cable to get your desired results. I could look and see if there is 3-4 and 4-3 shift tables and give an .xdf of those, I?m sure it has those in there. Manipulation of those along with post shift acceleration and the boundary shift windows in addition to adjustments to the TTVA will facilitate shift point changes.

It?s more than just a kickdown cable, it also regulates he rest of the gears shifting. But it?s a fine balancing act between governor pressure vs output shaft speed rpm and governor pressure vs transmission throttle valve angle to regulate shift firmness and when shifting will occur.

This will give some insight to the 46/47/48RE transmissions but this also is more referenced to the ones with the electronic TTVA.

ok that was a good read. I guess there should be 0 pressure in top two column other wise it will give me exactly what i felt putting 5psi in both columns causing that 2/3 gear feel taking off. is that your interpretation??also i was conservative ,is 5psi some thing i would notice?given this is my trial and error method??
