    Tuning Over Pre existing Tune.

Hopefully this is in the right place, still trying to get the hang of the forum layout.

I have a 08 Trailblazer SS that has been tuned using HP Tuners for awhile now and this winter Im changing alot (intake, spray, e85, 4l80e and 3600 stall). Problem is my tuner has dropped AWD support and im kinda on my own. So instead of spending another 600$ to get started with another tuner I decided to just buy pro suite and start doing my own thing.

Will I have an issue with my ECU being locked by another tuner? or can i just wipe over that and start my own? Really hoping im not getting in over my head with this but Ive been reading as much of the stickies as possible to get a feel for what im jumping into and it seems like something I can handle.

if your ecm is tunerlocked by your previous tuner you will NOT be able to read, nor flash the ecm and will require a new ecm.
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

How do you tell if the ecm is locked? I'm kinda going the same route the OP is.

X36 exceeded number of attempts message during the read process is the most common sign.

so how does anyone justify locking a customers property so that only they can access it? they paid for that tune and the access to make future changes. therefore they should have the ability to do so.

Because the "customer" does not own nor can they "pay" for access to make future changes. The tuning data is the "Intellectual Property" of the company or person who created it. Period.

so even though i agree some and disagree some, i believe where we are going with potentially having to "certify" our calibrations, this will become a must. If the calibration is certified, and has our stamp on it, it must remain fully intact. Locking will be the only way to maintain that certification
