    LS2 Upgraded Camshaft Tuning Guidance!

    Cal-1_Idle-1.19.hptHello All,
I am new to the tuning world and completely frustrated! I just finished up swapping my stock cam out in my LS2 with a beefier Tick Performance cam. 231/235/111. I have made a few attempts at getting the idle smoothed out, but I am not having much luck. I am using The Tuning School Level 1 Gm book to get started, but I still have so many questions. I've been searching through the forum and I am finding several threads on the subject, but I am just getting more and more confused as I read through them. I was wondering if anyone has an effective procedure for idle tuning that they would like to share? I posted the files of my last attempt at getting the idle to smooth out. I'm afraid to continue adjusting things with little or no changes and causing other issues. I'm good at following directions! I just need a guideline to get me pointed in the right direction. -Thank you for your time-

here is the basics. You need to add enough idle rpm, and idle airflow to keep the engine running somewhat descent, then you need to dial in your airflow models. idle tuning is done after your airflow models are done. you will be commanding specific airflow, but you cannot command that, unless you know what it is. trying to tune the idle before your airflow model is done is like putting the buggy before the horse.
to make it simple, double your idle airflow table, and add 250 rpms to the idle rpm tables. it doesnt have to be perfect, it just has to stay running.
dial your airflow/fuel tables, then fine tune the idle

30 degrees of idle timing is pretty damn high, try to get it in the low 20ish range. Look at your logs for where it's idling and adjust those spots in the timing tables. High/low and idle spark advanced.

I would also cut the under/over speed spark correction some, so it can't swing the timing as hard.

It's not that idle isn't important here, it's that fueling is super important. Having it being able to idle on it's own is already great but if you haven't taken any time correcting the MAF curve and VVE tables for fueling yet, it will be very hard to make the idle do exactly what you want it to do. In the first part of the log the wideband is showing that it's pretty lean, then it comes down, so I'd be adjust that first and then going back to fine tuning the idle.

If you don't post your tune and logs when you have questions you aren't helping yourself.

Yeah I thought 30 degrees was getting up there. I didn't think about correcting the MAF Curve and VVE tables first. I will start over and get them adjusted. Thanks Guys for responding!

    Cal_MAF-Idle-1.2.hptIdle_5.hplHey Guys
I attempted to focus on the VVE and MAF curve. I'm not sure if I am using the correct tools to dial them in. But here are my latest files. Please take a look and let me know if I'm heading in the right direction.
    -Thanks-
